The Corolla Hybrid is missing the big black grille too!
Perhaps there is hope for Toyota's designers after all. Keep them away from the Lexus ones though. I think they are the bad influence, judging from the looks of their cars.

Ioniq is pretty meh. I get stuck behind Velosters a lot.

However, I thought this Lexus LIT IS looked nifty.

It is still ugly with that huge black grille. Even the lights do not disguise that.

    Weather looking from the back or front, and even though it's too small for us, there's nothing ostentatious about the rev 2 Volt;

Hats off to GM for their designers avoiding the weirdness Factor, visually.

All these bleeding-edge trendy designs, they end up rolling down the same roads as the rest of the rabble, getting coated with road salt through winter, and so on. To me, in a day-to-day scenario, a simple, effective design looks better.

I like clean lines on a car but I overlook that because a Prius, well is just a Prius.

I told my wife when we bought the first one I never spent so much money on an ugly car.

You sound like Toyota US. They do not list the Prius as a car either.
A car wash should keep the lines on your car clean. :D

It's not just any old car. Although it seems odd to have a section for "hybrids & fuel cell". It makes Prii et al. sound alien.

Not necessarily ugly, but up for consideration as funniest name: the Daewoo Lanos, aka Doninvest Assol.

Imagine bragging to a friend about buying a new Assol!

Ford makes some normal hybrids and plugins Fusion comes to mind and the Camry Hybrid and Avalon hybrid look normal, but it you want max mileage the wind tunnel dictates the shape of your car.

True but when most people go to Toyota’s site they are looking for a car or truck, not a Hybrid.

Separating them, especially grouping them with FCV portrays them as something different, alien, and strange.

How is the Hybrid Camry not a car when the Camry is a car? o_O

I second the gen 2 volt on looking fantastic. I wouldn't mind one in pearl White but.... 42mpg and 106mpge is pretty un-eventful. Would rather just drive my 2010 Gen 3 until the wheels fall off.
Maybe if I ever get solar panels...

That's what I mean. It's confusing to people who aren't hybridized or electrified like we are.

Camrys are Camrys, I loved mine when I had it. I see the same platform every day where I live & work, still going strong, which means some of them could be more than 24 years old.

Maybe Toyota needs to hire somebody to redesign their car buying site so it's less confusing.

Toyota's site's not bad, though a little over-the-top, like all of them. Some are maddening: perusing both VW and Jeep Canada websites lately, I could not find "specifications", anywhere. Cutesy animations abound, attention hijacking links. I'm outa there, no thanks.

I think there's a premise in the title of this thread that is misleading, wrong: there isn't a correlation between hybrid and weird design; automotive design in general is in a weird phase. Completely superfluous design elements "emerge", then "evolve", get more and more elaborate. Elements with no use. Design has been handed over to visual artists; practicality, function are afterthoughts.

As the ladies amongst us will confirm, fashion Kris running out of fresh designs and old ones get tarted up and register as 'nouvelle.'
