First off, thanks for reading "Cleantechnica.com" as I'm not sure I could. There is a bigotry in BEV advocates that I find offsetting. For example, the thread "Why did you buy a plug in and not an electric car." The article goes on to dump dirt on my choice, plug-in hybrids, and my first reaction is to challenge them to a 'Cannonball' style, endurance race where refueling vs recharging goes head-to-head.

I bought an electric car since the main source of propulsion is MG2. IT happens to be assisted, at times, by the engine but it is still an electric vehicle.I get my electricity from gasoline and some others which are recognized as an electric vehicle get their electricity from coal. Why is theirs better than mine? I suspect mine is cleaner for the environment.

Corvettes start at a noticeably higher price point than the Prime.

The difference is that you are always stuck with gasoline, and have no real say in where it comes from, and thus how clean. You won't find a station selling gas made from light, sweet crude if you are in an area supplied by tar sands. As a group we could call for cleaner gasoline, but no one actually wants to pay for it at this point.

The owner of a plug in has more options. Some areas do sell renewable electric to individuals. Installing home wind or solar are also options. Then even if the plug in owner is stuck with whatever the grid provides, society and economics are pushing coal plants to be shut down in favor of cleaner sources like natural gas.

We live in a time of "Disruptive Technologies". I picked this term up from some junk mail I received in the mail many years ago.

Basically it says the as time passes something comes along the makes a major impact on the way things are done.

Back in the 1800's trains changed everything and it was the big reason for the westward expansion of the United States.

Today automation of computers and robots are changing things.

The cell phone is another major one.

And the movement from an oil based transportation system to electric is already showing signs that come with this "Disruptive Technology"

    of the electric car era.

Big oil will try to through a monkey wrench into things like they have before but they will eventually loose is my guess.

I love disruptive technologies. It's about time Big Oil, Not So bcc Big Coal, and certain car companies got disrupted out of their collective stupor.

I'd like to see incentives for all new construction to use better insulating technologies, obtain LEED certification, and use solar panels to satisfy as much of the building's power needs as possible. Retrofitting old buildings with solar panels would be incentivized also.

Gas prices in the US need to go up to the point where it is no longer economical to buy huge vehicles for whimsy. Off-roading the Nordstrom parking lot needs to become something to be ridiculed by all.

Not a reader. Just happened across the article through another source and thought Iā€™d share.
