So, if you are already aware the lights go on/off automatically, why did you open this thread?

I’m guessing he was referring to my comment about the screen going dark.

As I recall, I opened the thread before I took delivery of our P.Prime.

Ah, yeah, 1/22: that was a week or so after we ordered it, and it finally came in mid-May!

    go into settings.vechicle.lights

you can change the sensitivity there.

One thing I really want is for the lights to come on when the windshield wipers are on. since it's all software controlled anyway it would be a trivial thing to add and it would make abiding the law easier. In NJ you have to have the lights on when the wipers are on. But now everything is automatic. Except that they aren't connected so you still have to think about it all manually anyway.

We have the same law in California. If wipers are on for rain so should your lights.

It's easier to turn the lights on and leave them on.

I noticed the same thing yesterday driving at dusk. I could no longer read the roadmap. Is that an adjustable setting?

    Yes but unfortunately it's a dealer-customizable feature

Thanks, that is helpful. I need to go to the dealer for the one-year checkup next month, so I will have them reset it. If you set it to -2 does that mean that it is less sensitive; i.e. it will be more dark before the night mode comes on?

I don't know for sure but I'm with you in the assumption that negative means less sensitive.

My assumption is that for light "rain/mist/drizzle", it is hard to precisely identify when it is and when it isn't. It's pretty easy to identify when it is doing something that requires the wipers so the statement is "When it is precipitating enough to require wipers to be used, headlights must be on"...

Now the fact that many states have had these laws on the books for a while (I know NY dates back quite a ways) and a prius supports automatic headlights and automatc wipers...Not supporting turning the headlights on when the car turns on the wipers seems like a glaring omission.
