Thank you; hockey, especially Bruins Hockey, is one of the bigger loves of my life. The wife knows it as well as being a Torontonian she is a leafs fan but loves hockey just as much as I do myself.

That, and the Internet is global, not just a US cesspool/haven, depending on your viewpoint.

    Yeah,
What does Ontario, CA mean to you? What does it mean to someone in California?
Not the same place. Not even the same country!

That's right, there is an Ontario in California. It never gets any deliveries, lol.

Incredibly informative post here one. Thanks so much. I’m buying 2012 III tomorrow and this definitely looks like my first project. A few questions, has anyone seen any negative effect to doing this mod? Is there a consensus on the best method? and any video of an install?

I live in Atlanta and do rideshare. I put about 40k on a year and drive it pretty hard both highway and city miles. Do I definitely need to install an occ?

The car is one owner, and babied. Dealer service every 5k. Pretty sure I saw two throttle body services in the history. Do you think that included cleaning the intake? Car has 86k miles on it and runs very smooth on my multiple test drives. Has had the inverter software recall and I had ithetting 50mpg on a ten mile drive with an even mix of hwy and surface.

    Thanks again for this thread.

I have yet to see anything negative about this mod with over 50k miles between both our prii having used them. I could have easily filled a gallon worth of oil/water/fuel trapped by the catch can. In your case with driving more that 800 miles per week, I would empty/check the oil catch can every fill up. I see highway speeds 70mph+ filling up the occ faster than in city low rpm runs.

Dan, is the original post updated frequently as to the current 'state of affairs' as to what hardware you are using...current install instructions...etc?

Springtime is coming and I'm itching to install cans into my 2010 liftback and 2012 v wagon. Come to think of it..mounting a can in the wagon may be slightly different due to a slightly different engine compartment layout.

If you plan to locate it at the drivers-side front, then you're all set -- that's where mine is resides in my 2013 v Wagon. Mine sits in a foam beer can cozy, and works very well.

No more debate! This thread is killing me, convinced that this is a necessary thing to do to promote engine longevity. I went ahead and ordered a Ruien OCC from Amazon. Had to get the vented version in order to have it by this Friday, just use the vent blocker bolt :), otherwise will have to wait for at least a month.:( Bought a 10 ft braided hose and 3/8 barb from Home Depot. While the parts are off due to replacing the EGR valve/Cooler assembly, this will be a great time to install the OCC.(y)

Oh man, good for you! This must make me the last one with an awareness of the turd gen engine issues to still be sitting on the fence regarding the OCC:whistle:.

I also was on the fence for the longest time. But, my car just reached 120 K and will be performing a colossal preventive maintenance that includes replace the plugs, cleaning the intake manifold, replace the PVC, swap out the EGR valve/cooler assembly (I have a cleaned spare), clean the EGR pipe, map sensor, and throttle body, etc. Change the coolants. Already changed the oil, and ATF. There probably is something else that I missed. So I figured while the parts are off the engine, it would be easy to snake in an OCC too.(y)

I have spare materials if you can drive to GR.

What do you think the reason for oil consumption increase? Or just coincident?

Not sure, but I am adding 4-6 ounces every Saturday (400 miles):(.

Might be coincidence and not sure what dynamics have been affected, but it is noticeable ;).

You're not the last one. I probably will be, with the 91 octane fuel standard on our v there is no engine knock I'm aware of.

Might be good for my iQ:

I'm guessing the OCC wouldn't pass a smog check....
