I have put my extension ladder in my Prime. It was about 75 inches long, folded up. had to move the passenger seat all the way forward and remove the headrest. And it wasn't laying flat; it was resting on the top of the front seat.

So I don't think you could do it.

In my V, it could lay flat but I doubt it could fit upright.

The back seat area is 50" wide or so. Something the right shape and not longer than 50" could fit in there.

I had a 2006 Sony KD-34XBR970 HDTV widescreen, that was the last year that Sony made CRT's. I bought it brand new in late 2007 at Circuit City at a closeout price of $399 (list 1,200). A bit of a lightweight though compared to yours, mine was only 190 lbs.

My old rear projection weighed 200 pounds and had wheels on it. As long as you were on a flat floor you were OK. Mostly particle board.

About laying it down. I have transported a flat screen laid down a few thousand km without a problem, but it was only a 42" and now very old technology. Look at the box. It warns very clearly NOT to lay it down. Transport on edge (upright) only. I'm pretty sure it even says store upright only, even when in the box. Don't take it out of the box until it's in the house. Too easy to damage!

I now have a 64", transported in the box upright by the store (large truck) about 10 years ago. My brother and I have moved it around (while I was rebuilding the "stand" in prep. for its' replacement - not yet here). The one I have is a Sharp, and I can't wait for it to crater. Works just fine, if you don't mind paying for the 550W it consumes. At least it heats the house. ;)

agreed, but do you believe the transportation companies follow the package directions?
mine changed trucks at 3 different depots on the way to my house from cali. granted, it is only 55", but they ship everything.

I've put flat screens in on the flat, no problems. But I guess you need to be real careful to have even bearing, no point loads.

I think the concern is that the larger the size the greater the risk. Then again I suppose the only real risk is that you have to take it back to the store for another one. After all if you unbox it at home and find that it's cracked, you don't really know when that happened it could have already been cracked when you bought it. I don't know what percentage of store purchased TVs are cracked, however I know from reading Amazon comments that TVs arriving cracked is certainly not unheard of. But I would guess TV's are handled better on the way to the store than one delivered to a home from an online purchase.

it looks pretty tough to bend one in the box. i suppose taking it out of the box so it will fit in the back of the car might be problematic if it isn't small enough to lie flat.

I've done in-the-box flat-screen maybe just once, and bare ones more often. With the latter, I think if you put a big and fluffy quilt under, it soaks up any irregularities in the support.

We did a 55" in it's box once, I would say it was at the limit, touching both rear wheel well walls slightly. 3rd gen of course.

Pay the guys to bring it to your house and install it. It's not worth the headache. Seriously, I had to put an 85 inch touch screen up on a rolling stand recently. It took 3 of us to lift it and dial it into place.
