Well, that isn't what we were talking about, but some actually do have that problem. For instance, it is my understanding from numerous reviews that the Thinkware dash cameras have lousy Apple apps, so you wouldn't want to get one of those if you plan to use it with an iPhone. It's important to read reviews and watch YouTube videos for whatever you're thinking about buying.

I’m just joking, it’s funny to watch Apple vs pc fight in a dash cam sub. We are in 21century we should be expecting quantum computers in few years. There will be a new os for those quantum computers. No need to fight over something that is going to be history

Anyways thanks for heads up on the dash cam I will get more research done before I purchase a new dash cam

The wire tucks between the glass and plastic pretty easily. I ran it up the side of the window to up near the hinge then made a large loop to in the car. Then I needed an usb extension to make the trip around / under the rear passenger door seal and under the rear passenger floor mat to the center front console, where I have several 12 volt adapter sockets. Be, aware, the Garmin requires a 5 wire usb extension cord. Near the camera, I usually make a loop of wire so that the cable tension does not pull the camera to one side or the other,

Since the trunk closes with some force, I had to cut a 1/2 in thick square of wood and put Velcro on both sides. I put the opposite velcro on the camera above the lens, and on the back window. This makes sure that the camera has a constant space between it and the window.

When I made a trip to Florida, I could not find any adhesive that would hold the camera mount to the car plastic in the 100F heat. It would just fall off. So I had to resort to screws. I had to drill the garmin base for some very short wood screws to make a firm connection to the base of the Garmin to the plastic near the window in the prius.

Nice, if you go to home deport get the 3m heavy duty double side tapes it will do the job, I use heavy duty double side tapes to hold my Lexus spoiler and drove it above 140mph, and it won’t have an issue. You can give it a try but make sure you install it at evening so it can settle over night.
Anyways I’m need some access to tis so I can tap the signal wires from the back up. And buy a store devices to store the data.

My experience with 2017 toyota internal plastics is that it does not adhere well.

I suspect some kind of organic ingredients that resist.

    Maybe outside plastics are different.

Heat seams to be the determinant

How about taped on the glass, it’s easy to remove.

I got a panoramic rear view mirror/dashcam that I've been too busy to play with. It mounts over the existing rear view mirror, so you can take it off.

I don't think I want to leave it out in the car all night because it could drain the 12v battery or be a thief magnet, and I'm not about to work the fiddly bits.

Can you post a link of your camera or give a brand so I can do some research

I dont think it can drain your battery if you use the 12v socket from the center console. Because it will cut your power once the car turned off.

You can look at BlackBoxMyCar.com and see some battery backup devices they have that prevent battery depletion (mainly for use when you have a camera that you want to leave in a parking mode so that it continues to record under defined circumstances while the car is parked). BlackVue also makes one that monitors your battery level and only allows the dash cam to draw power until the battery depletes to a user-defined voltage. It is much cheaper than the ones that have an internal battery.

It's a Falcon Zero F360 HD DVR dual dash cam. I got it from Amazon.

They have instructions for ICE cars that have the dash-mounted 12v sockets, I may need a slightly longer cable to get it to the center console.

For whomever is saying that thinkware has Apple App issues that's not true.

My app functions just fine. I can watch the front & rear cam videos and download them without issue.

I'm basing that on customer reviews on Amazon, reviews of their app and comments from the company itself. It seems to be a well-documented problem. Perhaps they have resolved it.

well I read all 5 pages.. from pg4 to 5 was amusing.. so ill leave the apple/pc/android/iPhone stuff out as I have similar issues with it (I'm in IT as well LOL)..

    but now onto mine...

I have a 2014 Prius 3 with 105k miles. I have done nothing really to the car except replace a head light bulb ($16) and tires.. HAH..

I have been looking at cameras but always procrastinating as my Galaxy Note 8 (yes you see what side I'm on)... does a good job for videos when I'm driving my mud truck around...
We purchased a 2006 jeep wrangler for my, at the time, 17 year old. really nice jeep. had it for 7 months and got T-boned. spun around and totaled. From what I can hear from him, it is not his fault. long explanation but I wont get into it. so were 1 year in and we haven't replaced his vehicle due to attitude and grades... had full coverage and while insurance paid, were still down $4k as these are expensive

anyway.. it just went to arbitration???? and was found my son was 100% at fault. so now I'm looking into cameras and 1 will be in each of our vehicles now.. screw this... so quick story. my son came down a road that is 2 lanes each way separated by a grass median. He went to make a left which is a paved left into the median so it turns into 3 lanes there. He crosses BOTH lanes, guy comes out of Taco Bell and floors it looking other way as there is a traffic light there and T-bones my son. He hits my sons rear tire, spins my sons jeep 180 degrees and rolls it. FYI the taco bell exit was 25 feet away from my son so he had to floor his accura and nail my son without braking!!!!!

so I was in my wifes JKU in line at dunkin donuts a few weeks ago and I looked down to get my wallet. I realize the guy in a fullsize gmc sierra crew cab 8ft bed was backing up. I laid on the horn and it is a loud horn.. guy kept coming.. so he lightly hit me. I get out.. he moves over and I see no damage then look up to see him turning out of the parking lot and leaving... he knew he hit me. I could of called the cops and they could of got DD camera footage but I didn't bother....

now the prius.. I'm having people get behind me in the right lane.. doing 65mph in a 65mph zone.. and put their high beams on... yay this is fun... but other day I watched a guy go to take an exit ramp, which I take, and it is 2 lanes.. guy in right lane realized his minivan was supposed to stay on the other road.. so he grabbed the wheel and yanked HARD and side swipe slammed a car super hard.. if I had the camera I would of pulled over and told him call me and ill get him the video.... I watch people all day.. 3 lane change to take an exit and everything.. its just pathetic...

so I was going to put my own thread out there but see various cameras here... so figured Id add it here..

I just purchased the Thinkware x500d as on a truck forum a few people have it and say it is top notch and really nice. I will post pics, etc when I get it.

I just need to know how to wire it in. It has a feature where if hardwired... if you are hit while parked and not in your car, it wakes up and starts recording to try and get some of the action.... so I am not sure where I am going to connect it yet...so will need advice.

    here is what I bought...

almost bought another where it came with a 32gb card but I have a 64gb (max it takes) to put in so didn't need it and this one came with the smaller card but with the hardwire kit...

oh and the x500d will take the 550d firmware to which they are identical and the 550d firmware enables a few features!!!!!
