So I just got a 2018 Prius 3 with ATP. Having owned the 2016 prius 3 Touring, it would have been nice to be able to get the prius 4 with the larger screen, but finances didn't allow for the extra convenience. But I was wondering if anyone had found a Tesla style head unit for the prius to replace the entune system? I saw one for the camry v55 that looked pretty nice and was hoping someone had experience with this or saw a kit, etc.

Welcome to Prius Chat, Andy. Personally I'd not seen anything like you mention for a replacement screen on here, but hang around and somebody with more nous then me will chip in.

Thanks RCO. Ya, I've looked around and I was told by two Toyota dealerships that getting the 11.6" screen that's on the 2018 prius 4/touring was not possible. So was looking for a Tesla styled vertical head unit. And like I said, the camry v55 has an aftermarket one available (just don't know if it specifically would work and also don't want a camry showing up in my prius. )

Somewhere in this maze of the Priuschat forums is a section that pretty much covers everything from the novice to the person with "money, time and tools". If you want to buy the unit you like and need to "fill in the holes", there are a lot of people in here who have done what I consider top notch work. I would try putting in the search bar "head units" and hopefully you will find what I saw.

Well the thing is finding a head unit that would fit into my prius and if it's possible to change, say, the camry v55 head unit to show a/ my prius instead for the vehicle background image? I wrote the company and am awaiting to hear back if they make them or would make one.

My wife hated the softex seats. Plus I had been waiting for TSS-P to be standard on the prius (ie lane departure, ICS, BSM, etc). Tried a 2018 prius two but she didn't like the black fabric with the midnight silver metallic exterior. Plus living in AZ, she loves the power moonroof on the advanced technology package.

You most certainly have to keep your other half happy! Don't know if @ssdesigner is able to help you, he has experience with switching head units, if I recall.

Well I've reached out to Smarty Trend who makes android head units to include a Tesla style one that runs Android 6 (Marshmallow). I sent them pics of how my dash unit looks so that they can see if they can get a unit to fit in it (like their 10.6 " unit or something similar). Just waiting to hear back (email sent on 4 March and they replied on 5 March).

I'm not sure about putting a camry head unit into a Prius....maybe the sizes are similar. For aftermarket decks it's pretty much up to the mounting kit manufacturers to conform to the new cars and release something that fills the gaps. The aftermarket head units are all the same standard sizes, the holes left behind each dash after removing OEM stereos, are not.

Unfortunately I have not heard back from Smarty Trends after my initial inquiry, but am in the process today of sending a follow-up email to them to obtain an update for myself to see if they can make it work or get a landscape version to work that would be similar in functionality as to say the model 3 screen/infotainment system, etc.

Well after sending the follow-up email, they responded back fairly quickly to let me know that " I'm sorry but our head unit is not compatible with your car."

    So back to square one.

You could also try reaching out to Seicane, Joying and Sygav but I think they are all just re-sellers of the same kind of Android radio. I have one of these in my Rav4 Hybrid and it's a fun gadget. All plug and play with retention of vehicle settings, hybrid info, backup camera and music source inputs. You also get clean amplified signal to all speakers which really opens up the sound quality. You do lose some integrated functionality in the MID though so keep that in mind. Tech support and product life are also considerations.

The core unit itself is mostly universal in application. Hopefully they will be able to get a radio trim piece designed and CANBUS module spec'd out for the Prius. Since it works in the Rav4 hybrid not sure what's stopping them from pursing, other than it being older gen hybrid system. Or maybe just makes sense to focus on other mass produced vehicles.

    Hiya everyone!

I'm sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm disgusted with my head unit, and I was curious if the OP had managed to find any joy in his search.
I've looked at the Joying, but for my Dodge RAM work truck. I get spoiled in the summer, when I'm home, and able to drive my Prius, and then when I have to go back to work and lose all my "gadgets" in my Prius, it stinks..lol. My biggest concern in replacing the head unit in my 2017 Prius 4 Touring, is how nice the original looks in the dash. I want the same beautiful, integration in the dash, and the same functionality...plus more..
If you are listening Toyota, I want ANDROID AUTO!!! I could live with the head unit thats in there now, but I recently discovered the song limitation of 9999. I have a large music collection, and I purchased a 512gb USB stick, and loaded it up with about 120gb so far, and when I went for a drive the other day, I took it with me to try it out...works fantastic...except...I've already maxed out the number of songs it will access, and I've only just began to fill it up...this is pathetic, Toyota. And, how come a fella with an earlier model of a Toyota Tacoma, with an older version of entune was able to install a 512gb stick, and have access to 57,XXX of his songs!?! That makes no sense.

I want all my music, all the time. I have enough that I dont NEED satellite radio...lol...I just need to be able to access it. That will be a major consideration for any potential aftermarket option, for me...

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.
