This message came up on my display - just as I hit 5000 miles.

I have a short commute, so when I had my 6 month maintenance check in November, the odometer was well shy of 5000 miles. I assume this message is coming up because the technician didn't reset some counter.

Is there any way I can clear the message from the display? So far I haven't found the magic formula to do so. Will it go away on its own if I ignore it for some set interval?

I'm an urban animal and the dealer is way out in the distant burbs, so I don't want to make the trip just have this screen cleared. Heck, it would mean resorting to use that gasoline stuff I hear about.

i would do your services every 5,000 miles, not six months. the formula for turning the message off is in the o/m.
i do not think it will go off on its own.
if you don't put 10,000 miles a year on it, you might want to change the oil once a year.

that's probably because you didn't reach 5000 miles in November the maintenance reminder comes on at 5k

I think the maintenance reminder comes on 4500 miles after the last time it was reset.

The dealer wants to rotate your tires and top up your fluids and if you're lucky check the alignment.
You can reset the mileage counter to make the message go away if it's inconvenient to go to the dealer, and if you want an oil change at 5k the dealer will charge you.

Yes, it can be reset. In 700 page manual. I can't look for it now but it is in there.

The service reminder is basically a 5,000 mile alarm clock. It will come on 5,000 miles from the last time it was reset. The reminder initially comes on 500 miles in advance of this to give you time to prepare for a service appointment. During this period, it only remains on the screen briefly. If you do nothing, at the 5,000 mile point, it will stay on the screen until it is reset again.

You mean the first free chance to upsell services. It is every 5K miles for tire rotation but oil change is 10 K miles. First 2 years / 25K miles are free, IIRC.

The maintenance stipulation by Toyota is 5000 miles OR 6 months, whichever comes first. I see where you're coming from though: going my miles, you won't be battling that timer.

My 2 cents to @MNdriver , do the maintenance by whichever stipulation comes first, and learn how to turn the warning off, as needed (when months governs). From page 586 of Owner's Manual:

Or more simply double press just the power button and it'll turn on partially. Then use the steering wheel right button to go over to the settings on the small dash screen. From there scroll all the way down in the settings and select "maintenance" and "oil" option then reset with the circle button on the right side of the steering wheel. Tada.

At 4500 miles since the last reset the maintenance reminder comes on briefly each time the car is put into Ready mode until 5000 miles, at which point it stays on continuously until reset.

In this case, Your Mileage Doesn't Vary... ;)

MNdriver, don't short yourself on those free Toyota Care services! You should get up to 5 in the first 2 years, if it's the same for the Prime as it is for a Gen 4.

Why?? I went in for my first. The paperwork said they set tire pressure at 32 for all tires, well below specifications. They were actually at a more reasonable 39.
They also told the service writer that they did not check the battery since the Prius is different. If they do not realize Toyota started putting a regular lead acid battery under the hood a year earlier, am I going to trust them on service?
I did my oil change myself to insure it was done properly.

If you ask why I bought a car from them if I do not trust them, my answer is that I bought the car from a dealer 150 miles away because I got a better deal and do not trust the locals.

If they can't manage to check the earlier gen 12 volts they shouldn't be in business. Sounds to me like service writer lost-in-translationese.

They probably did not want to take the time to expose the battery on the earlier Prius.
You would think if they lifted the hood to check fluids, they would have seen the battery.

The service writer's disconnected though, just a mechanic pimp.
