I'm new and Just like to hi to everybody.

looking for a bit of help with my HUD.
I have had my Prius for 18 months now. trouble free up to last week.

I have a Toyota prius 2011 gen3 T spirit. Heads up display started to flicker between bright and dull light on the display a few times and then just went off. Now it doesn't work.

Just wondered if anybody else as had the same experience. and where the problem could be.

Could it be the HUD unit under the dash? Which looks like it could be a difficult job!

    Thanks in advance.

I was thinking, because it was flickering between bright and dim before it went off. Could it be something to do with the toggle dimmer switch for the heads up display. (variable resistor maybe)

Just trying to get a few ideas before I start pulling things apart.

I'm going to take a guess. Be advised, I know nothing about the proper operation of a HUD option. But your description of the failure got me thinking. I am guessing that maybe the illumination intensity of this display option can be adjusted by the dashboard illumination control, the little volume control-like wheel near your left knee. And if so, sometimes the graduated change of this potentiometer can be compromised through moisture or dust intrusion. This usually happens in older vehicles, or in a vehicle where a window was left down during a storm or something. You may be able to "clean" the contacts by rolling this roller switch from stop to stop several times. If this has no effect, then either some wires are loose or the device has indeed failed.

EDIT: Ak, just noticed you're in the UK. Roller switch by your right knee then, right-hand drive...

Hi AzWxGuy Thanks for the reply,

The HUD as four Toggle switches in row top to bottom. (Next to stereo)
    1st Turns HUD display on/off
2nd Sat Nav HUD directions on/off
3rd Adjusts HUD display position on screen
    4th Hud Dimmer up/down

Was hoping it could be something to do with the HUD toggle switches, as they look fairly easy to get at.
    But that's probably wishful thinking.

I can live without HUD for now, but would like to get it working again soon. Handy addition to any car.

Just looking for anybody that might of come across this before or a few ideas before worst case. (Dash Removal) Replacement of HUD unit located under the top of dashboard. If it comes to Dash removal I will give it a go in a couple of months when weather gets better here. until then just trying to find simple solution if there is one. :)
