So you have no temporary spare tire?

This is different than all North American 3rd gen Prius, which do have spare. That picture too, is completely different; we just have carpeted floor piece, no tray with compartments, a the 12 volt battery under.

Do you have Owner's Manual? If not, perhaps you can download, from Toyota Europe?

You can enter Vehicle Identification Number and search for manuals here:

Anyway, neither my other regular prius 2013 had no spare!
Actually none of our former 3 cars 2010- had spares, at least in EU this seems to be the trend...

To clarify: none of the cars you mention above had spares? There's a double-negative thing going on, and I'm easily bewildered. Assuming they had no spares, that sucks.

Again (I'm always harping on this), I think the ONE thing that'll bring spares back is to not buy a car that doesn't have a spare. If cars without spares don't sell, the manufacturers will get the message, the only one they understand.

And, if that is their only choice, what then? The OP said that appears to be the trend in the EU.

    Then you're screwed I guess.

I heard someone recently say (where, who knows, radio probably) that consumers actually have very little input, that's we're talked into a lot of "our" choices. I can see that.

Still, if there's still at least a mix, some cars with spares, some without, and enough negative feedback from dealerships to the manufacturers, say potential customers switching models or just walking, due to lack of spares, maybe something will filter through. Or not.

People still seem to be buying the Prius Prime instead of a Prius Two, Three. or Three Touring that have spare tires. I doubt anything will filter through to Toyota US who determines the vehicle packaging.

Indeed all cars that I owned production date after 2009 had no spares: 2 bmw, 1 Vw, 2 toyota

And I have no need for spares. If I have a puncture, usually I just reinflate it and crawl to the nearest tire service

Worst case: call a friend to being me one of the summer / winter tire

And all spare-less card have now warning systems when tire starts to deflate (using abs sensors), so usually you have enough time to make it to the service

Mine also had nothing in that side. It might come with extra tools or something in certain markets.

The Prime is a bad example. There is NO room for a spare! You could put one above the battery and have NO cargo space at all, compared to the reduced cargo space it currently has. The other example is certain packages don't have a spare, and the rumor is it's a weight thing rather than a room thing.

It's funny how sensitive the fuel economy is to weight. You would think 50 to 100 lbs wouldn't make much difference in a 3000 lb car, but it does! We all need to diet! ;)

Post 11, a PiP from Ireland is probably the closest we can get. The US PiP may have been packaged differently.

EDIT: According to the US PiP manual it appears to be an "auxilliary box", a place to store things.

I can't be much help since I got mine used. One thing that's supposed to be there that I know of is a spare tire strap, which I'm using now to hold my spare. The instruction sheet for that is under the ratchet strap in the picture below. It's very compact and probably is meant to fit in that small, square cavity, but I could be wrong about that.
    IMG_8124.JPG
I think the strap in the picture is my own, but it fits in there nicely. Over on the other side is the tire "repair kit." But I have a regular pump and a plug kit that I keep in the deep center cavity if I need it. I have no idea what the other pockets are for.
