    Patrick,

Can’t thank you enough. I will get the engine ECM removed so I can look at the number. I will also try the starting fluid. I will be in touch!

    Best regards,

    lol wut?

No such thing as illegal diagnostic tools. Google couldn't even find such a thing. Everything on Amazon that ships to your location is legal. Any diagnostic cable, app, tuning software or code reader is legal. You can look at and change your programming in any vehicle.

    Hi Patrick,

I removed the engine ECM and was able to find a replacement on e bay like you suggested. I would like to know your thoughts on a HV grid charger. Do you have a preference?

    Thanks again,

    Hi Roger,

I don't have a preference because I haven't needed to charge a traction battery. If that need materialized, I have sufficient lab power supplies on hand so that I could generate the necessary high voltage DC.

    Thanks Patrick,

I really appreciate all your help. I will let you know what happens when I install my new engine ECU.

    Take care,

    Hi Patrick,

I received my new engine ECU but unfortunately that did not cure the problem. I did hook it up by removing the 4 connectors from the original ECU and left the original in place. When I read the codes they were almost the same; P3190, P3191, & P0101. I also sprayed some starting fluid into the throttle body but the ICE wouldn't stay running continuously and eventually would die out. No more than 30 seconds.

However, I think the ICE did start for a short period because the cat did get warm. The P0101 DTC (MAF) made me go back to your earlier suggestion of cleaning the MAF Sensor with a Q tip. I completely removed the MAF and delicately and thoroughly cleaned it. I removed a great deal of black soot from the bulb like device. I also thoroughly cleaned the air box and installed it with a brand new air cleaner.

With the car back together and the 12V battery completely charged I started the car. It started and only had one hiccup around the 30 second mark. After 3 minutes of idling, I backed the car out of the garage and started driving. The HV battery after a short period of time was almost completely charged. I drove back to the garage and shut it off. I then removed the new ECM that was just hanging there and hooked the 4 connectors back to the original Engine ECU. I started the car and again it ran fine.

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to write me your "to do" list for trouble shooting the car's possible faults. In the end you were correct and I was saved from towing it to a dealer. I really appreciate your help.

    Best regards,

Well! Great News. Congrats. And, as always a big "Well Done to Mr. Wong."

    However

You got lucky. Do not EVER touch the MAF with anything except MAF spray.

The proper cleaning method is to remove the MAF and spray with down with cleaner, never touching the actual sensor wires with anything other than the spray. Mr. Wong actually does say this in his post.

Just mentioning this in the event someone else decides to clean the MAF>

    Steve,

I stand corrected. I thoroughly cleaned the throttle body with a Q tip and cleaner. The MAF sensor was only cleaned with MAF sensor cleaner with the red straw to spritz the sensor. Thank you for correcting me!
