I haven't had any further issues. I thought I found a minor bug in a screen display, reported on my 5k service today, but the technician researched the issue and provided a convincing explanation that my issue was a design spec. (I am impressed.) Maybe you should just get them to replace the head unit.

I spoke too soon. Everything was great until several weeks ago when the "new" Prime started rebooting. I have nothing connected, it seems to occur when I change radio channels.

Brought the car in to dealer today to apply TSB software update. On the way home it rebooted several times.
Now they want me to leave the car there for more extensive diagnostics. It seems Toyota really doesn't have a handle on this problem.

I had this problem initially. Would restart and connect/reconnect often.

I decided to unplug it from the car and use another charging adapter in the lighter instead. Connects via Bluetooth now only.

Works great and no problems over past 10 months doing it this way. I’ve put about 18k miles since then.

iPhone: I have been using an iPhone 6 since June. After I ditched a tired Apple firewire cable (which worked fine on my 2015 Prius PiP -- however, I confirmed that it had gone bad on other devices), I had no problems. iPhone connected through Bluetooth and USB (as an iPod). I just got an iPhone X. Both the wireless charging pad and the iPod connection seem to work. (Manual says iPod good through iPhone 6s only.)

Interesting that this topic would come by my feed just now, because I experienced it crashing for “only” the third time since we got our P.Prime in May. This time it froze up rather than rebooting, until I parked and had an opportunity to shut the entire car off.

I’ve seen one spontaneous reboot (I think a couple months or so ago), and another case a few days ago where it seemed to *start up* as I was shutting the car down — a rather strange sensation! Apparently, it crashed and rebooted upon shutdown.

I’m guessing that a big part of the reason I’ve seen 11.6”-screen crashes so “little” (if 3 times qualifies as little!) is that I don’t do much phone calling - some, but not much; perhaps a call every other day or so on the average. It seems like many of the reports of such crashes relate to calls being made. I was in fact making a phone call during this freeze-up incident. I’m not sure whether this has anything to do with it, but this particular call I initiated from the iPhone itself.

Now that being said, I do — fairly often in fact — see issues with the ... PrimeOS? ... not “remote-controlling” my iPhone correctly for music playing. Crashing, however, luckily for me, has been comparatively infrequent.

By the way, I am using the Anker-brand cable believed to work well with iPhones.

My saga continues. I brought the car to another dealer. He rebooted the system and told me the previous dealer didn't reboot the system after applying the update. He re-applied the update.

It started rebooting again as soon as I left the dealership. Went back and he ordered a new "head unit". Since it's been installed I've had only 2 reboots (that's an improvement). I still think there's a design flaw somewhere, either software or hardware. I can live with the infrequent re-boots now, but I'm concerned the problem might get worse after the warranty period ends and I'd be facing a $4000 repair.

These screens are pretty much ubiquitous now, all the manufacturers are in love with them? Or maybe there's still a few econoboxes without them?

Sorry for being the Luddite troll, but here's a few items on my car shopping checklist:

    1. Has a spare?
    2. Is screen-free?
    3. Tactile, easy to use heat/vent controls?

I just left a Toyota dealer after a 20k service. They offered to replace the screen/system. I declined and suggested that we wait until my 25k service to pull the plug. They seemed disappointed. They were very eager to order a new unit and schedule a replacement, while noting that it probably won’t fix the problem. Sounds like the dealer is getting paid a ton for a repair and doesn’t care about the end result.

At least for #1, you can always buy a spare tire. It's harder to replace #2. (Yeah even the Fit and Yaris sedan have screens as standard equipment BUT the econoboxes still retain buttons and knobs for radio and climate control... so it's not fully integrated screen functionality yet, just a larger colour screen in lieu of the monotone or "casio-style" ones that used to grace their dashboards)

in 5 months of ownership i never experienced an issue with the screen. I tried a lot of things .. played my huge library of music via my phone on Bluetooth , with a usb cable and even tried with a 64 GB usb 3 Key ... no issue . no rebooting. The usb port in the car is clearly a data port . it's too weak to charge a phone properly .. and when it's able to charge it take ages. Better use the 12v with an adapter.

The only thing i can observe if i compare my situation with all the other posts in this thread is that i own the Canadian version which is completely striped from the Entune software and other things like the Predictive Efficient Drive , weather , real time traffic etc .. so maybe yes it's probably a bug in the software .. who really knows ;(

You have a Prime with the 11" screen w/o Entune? What does it use instead?

I have the US version without Entune. I simply never signed up.

Yes i have the 11'' screen , What does it use instead? absolutely nothing. Just imagine your car without the purple Apps Icon and this is the Canadian Version.

we have the Green ( phone ) , Teal ( information ) and Blue ( navigation ) , The purple icon with all the Apps is not present.
No Entune , no Apps , no communication with the car with a Smartphone , no Predictive Efficient Drive.

I have a Microsoft phone... windows 10 based. No Entune App for it so no connectivity (although I have a US advanced and so have the "capability" of having apps). The Bluetooth works completely reliably, the headunit has never crashed.

now... I never use USB... there is no need since my phone has built-in wireless charging.

Bluetooth is completely standard (or damn close), not apple's pick and choose and change whatever we want because we're apple standard.

so... it never crash's for me with my phone, but still has entune apps running but not connected due to lack of availability on my phone.

I would suggest that someone who is having crashing problems simply delete the entune app from their phone. That should allow us an extra datapoint in trying to pin down the flaw.

at a minimum, it would help if people posted: phone brand, model, os version, entune app installed on car, entune app installed on phone

I bought Advanced because I wanted to take advantage of Entune apps and capabilities. Otherwise, what the point of paying for things that are flawed/unusable? Moreover, uncompressed music sounds A LOT better over USB than Bluetooth. That’s another reason I bought Advanced - a JBL audio. Is it too much to expect for electronics to work the way Toyota claims they should?

So I am having the same issue. I bought a 2017 Prius Prime in March of last year and almost iediately started having problems. I took the vehicle in 4 times and still no luck in finding out what the problem was so I got an attorney. Long story short, Toyota acknowledged that the car was a lemon and gave me a new last week. I am now having the same problem with the new car. I have consulted my attorney and he has reached out to Toyota but they are saying that I have to re-start the process. In the next few days, we will decide how we will proceed. What’s VERY important is that you take the vehicle in to the dealership and document those interactions and every time the system goes down/reboots. It made my attorney’s life a lot easier. I guess I have to start that again.
