Although every situation is different, and your results may vary, if you are early in the failure time of the battery, you will probably be ok.
Are you sure you have a HV battery code?
Do you have a way of resetting the code if it trips?

Are you going to be travelling relatively level/flat roads?

 

Hard to do any DIY repairs when you are on the road and working. And I guess that you do not wish to spend a lot fixing a 2005 at any rate.
Any chance of turning up a used HV battery at an auto wrecker there? Sometimes in life, you have to just tough it out, driving may be necessary, like it or not. Good Luck...

You might have a failed inverter pump, which has similar lights to a hv battery problem

 

Have you read the codes yet, this time around? If you haven't, you're just kind of assuming that of the hundred or so possible reasons for your dash lights to come on, this is necessarily the same reason it was last time. (You've even mentioned that symptoms, such as the fan behavior, are not exactly the same as before, which might be a reason to question the assumption.) Ultimately, no matter what your issues were last time, we don't know what your issues are this time until you have the codes this time.

That could help form a more confident judgment about how much of your 120 miles you're likely to cover.

I bowl Tuesday nights lol. But the OP may not be far away.

It might not even be a battery problem

 

I bowl on Sunday mornings with my son.

$1 a game from 6 am through 10am.

Since we are up anyway (at 7 he has no concept of sleeping in on the weekends) it’s a cheap hobby.

 

If it is the hv battery and you’re already considering a Prolong setup, why not do the module swap and reconditioning yourself?

I helped a member up here in the Bay Area do that exact thing.

What on earth are you using to check codes??

 

When you say "maintenance mode", what do you mean?

The system check screen on the MFD ? It disappoints everybody to find out that only gives codes for the infotainment electronic stuff.

For the car diagnostics, you do need a scan tool to plug in at the DLC3 connector. The ones that will give you access to the most information would be J2534 dongles connected to a laptop running Toyota's "Techstream" app.

In a Gen 2, there are also a lot (but definitely not all) codes that you can retrieve by just putting a wire between two of the DLC pins, and counting blinks of lights on the dash. Kind of old-school, but you can do it wherever short bits of wire can be found, whether or not you own a snazzy scan tool or have it with you (and it gives you a kind of direct-to-the-car sanity check of the scan tool you're using, if there's any question about the information it's showing you).

If you might invest in something, search around for threads about Techstream.

But before (or while) you're searching for that, you can certainly get whatever codes are available as light blinks, if you can get your hands on a wire.

Those won't include HV or battery codes, but as of now we don't even know whether the codes you're (not) seeing are HV or battery codes or something else, so it's worthwhile to at least get the something elses checked for.
