I like that the front has the multi light look of the Prime without that big black grille look. Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for Toyota's designers.

Huh? That is the new purple one with light like the Prime. The other one with the single lens is the current Gen 4.
Which front looks like your car?

Here is the full image. Notice it says New Prius.

The tail lights may be a little less polarizing. It would be better to judge in person.

They changed them slightly. The took away the long tails and curved them under the lower hatch window slightly.

I think I have only followed one that had the tail lights on.
I wish the brake light kit was less than $220. They should have been the brake lights.

Why is it in FHOP? lol. I checked the news section and the Gen 4 Main forum and thought I was clear to post the news :(. @bisco was kind enough to direct me here

2019 Prius Facelift Preview - Adopts Prime's Headlights | PriusChat

Anyway, here is what I gathered

    • Negative feedback on current Gen 4 design
    • How to update the look without compromising aerodynamics and other engineering features built into the Prius
    • The suggestion to update the styling to match the PHV was not approved within Toyota as they wanted to keep the distinction between the regular Prius and the PHV/Prime (otherwise Toyota ends up with the same issue as the Gen 3 vs. PiP)
    • Same headlight as Prime - moved turn signals/indicators to the corner of the bumper like the Prime
    • At the rear, the Z-shaped taillights have been replaced by a C-shaped taillight design, similar to Prime
    • D-4S direct injection technology arrives in the engine (updated version of the same engine - not a new one)
    • December 2018 arrival

Is this then a mid-gen facelift? Or a new gen? The latter would be a short cycle, no?

I live in hope there's been some interior mods.

I like it did not inherit that Prime black grille.

Well it couldn't, otherwise they would end up in the same place as 2012 - no distinction between Prius and Prime models.

Definitely less polarizing, but still an outside the box look. I wonder if there will be any interior changes too.

There were some interior changes in 2018 when some trims got the large screen from the Prime.

I like the design of the Prime. I think it would be a welcome change, especially in the front. I assume they wouldn't be adding the super expensive tailgate?

Refresh. Generally more changes with a generation change, and these are minor.

Busy. Too many lines and angles. May be functional and bought as an appliance. But would I want to pull up in front of the country club in that?

Count me in on this. Plus since they need to simplify to differentiate it from the Prime, they should remove the insect like mandible on the front bumper corners too.

right. I do like the taillights on the current model. I assume the regular Prius wouldn't get the same backseat either? I would hope they would still have the traditional 3 seats. I would definitely be concerned though if they went to the tailgate materials. Very expensive repair item I have read.

    What does that mean ?
It's not getting the new D 4S 2.0 180 bhp Hybrid Engine the 2019 Auris in Europe will get ?
Toyota spokesman at the presentation of the new Auris in Geneva said that all important hybrid models will get it,I would be very disappointed if the Prius is no longer considered as an important hybrid at Toyota and anyway, why mess around with the "old" power-train and not just offer the new 2.0 D 4S as an option instead ?
    Sounds rediculous to me !
