Wow, thanks @Mark57 for taking the time to write and illustrate that. It's greatly appreciated. I'll report back once it's done.

My pleasure. Based on your card photos, I'm convinced you have the most recent version. Once you get your map info screen info we can finally put this question to rest . . . for a while. :)

Well, this is disappointing. Got it installed and it reports the same 4/1/17 map update that apparently has been around awhile. If anyone's aware of a newer map, let me know so I can go yell at my dealer. Before and after screens:

This is what I was expecting. They've always only released one update per year in the past. It appears there's no new update yet. At least we now know that thanks to you and the part number and description. I does say 2017-2018 on the package so there may not be another update planned.

Per your pic post #53, Version 17.1 MicroSD Card upgrade for GEN8 Navigation 86271-GN8PR-17 Prius PHV 2017-2018

Thank you for posting all of this.

Any luck on being able to update our maps? Just got the vehicle today and was using the navigation and the maps were extremely out of date.

Can anyone tell me if this SD card would work found on eBay Part number: 86271-0E185?

There’s a fairly long production cycle for the navigation databases: on the old Lexus Navigation website, Toyota wrote, “Input for the following release in the fall is generally closed in September of the prior calendar year.” In other words, even if you have the latest database, it may be more than a year behind ground truth.
Not for the Prius Prime Advanced or Prime Premium with the 11.6-inch display made by Denso. For this system, as @mercat68 kindly showed us in post #53, the part number for the 2017 (17.1) release is 86271-GN8PR-17, and the microSD card is marked 86271-47201. Part number 86271-0E185 refers to the 2017 release for the Prius Prime Plus and other Prius models with the 7-inch display made by Panasonic.

I purchased my 2017 Prius 4 in Dec 2017. It has map version 05-37-51 Dated 04-1-2017. I made a trip to Napa the other day which is my home town. The navigation system did not even have a road on it in the down town area that I know has been in existence for at least 50 years. Then the next day I was in American Canyon and again a street that has been there for 40 years did not exist in the navigation system. I think they are hit and miss when they make their maps.

I find the nav system useless or difficult to use at best. I use Waze on my phone.

I just checked mine and I have the 10/3/2016 map 05-36-53. Toyota sucks with this. Not sure if I should bother updating since I usually use my iPhone. The only problem with that is there’s no great place to mount an iPhone X. I usually keep in the Qi charging tray but it doesn’t t really charge my phone well either. I plug it in. Very frustrated and annoyed. Where do you buy the updated map if you want to install yourself?

As with other Toyota parts, you can buy a new microSD card at a dealer’s parts counter or from a dealer selling online. I don’t see the cards for the Denso head units (86271-GN8PR-17) offered on eBay. The 2018 edition will presumably be issued in a few months, though, so it might be better to wait until then.

Yep, as @Elektroingenieur said, at the dealer or online. Card from the dealer is $179 and DIY. But wouldn’t rush, as it appears they still only have a version more than a year old. C’mon, Toyota.

I was just looking at a Canadian Prime with the 7" display, manufactured 08/18.
Sticker on the back of the SD card says 86271-35021.
Version info on the screen says "Map Version: 05-38-50 2018-05-0"
Coverage map shows that it's all of North America, so I'd guess it's the same part for US cars.

There's also 86271-GN8LC-18, which appears to be for the 7" screen.

Can't you just copy the new version on a SD card and use it?

There's a number for the Prime Advance BUT it DOES NOT exist. I've been trying for 2 years contacting Toyota Corporate repeatedly.

6 . Can I update my navigation with the latest Map data?
Map updates are not available from this site. Map data can only be updated at the dealership and cannot be downloaded from this site.
Got my car in September, 2019 this was on it. Anyone have newer?
