Replacement. Check your insurance for glass coverage.

I think you need replacement too.

Next time...haha....when it is just a star (and not a crack) you can use windshield repair kits (for example "Loctite" brand name of product about $20 dollars) to fill the star and help prevent a crack from forming.

    It will need replacing :(.

Next time at first noticing it, I would call your insurance company and usually with glass coverage, they’ll repair the crack for free:).

That’s at least what we have with Amica;).

    Good luck(y).

Ah the assumptions we make from our own location and circumstances. I love that the OP includes his location so that it displays at the left of his message. That gives people responding a clue as to the probability of the weather, dealership network, regulations, insurance regimes, road surfaces, etc so that they can key their response and not assume the OP has circumstances that match their own. I participate in another brand's forums on other continents and am always amazed how different even simple things can be. Prices, warranties, LHD vs RHD, lighting regulations, etc.

In the US, there are sometimes different windshields depending on what options the car has so describe the car carefully when pricing your replacement. That may not be true where you are but worth researching just to be sure.

Here is something I do to my windshield. But I can not say that it will fully protect a windshield from chipping or cracking. But it will make it smooth and slippery and that may be enough to add a layer of protection if something does happen.

I use food grade silicone lubricant spray. This will make the window very slippery and smooth and that may be enough to add a layer of protection to a wind shield. It fills tiny pores in the glass and makes it very slippery.

I wet a towel (like a micro fiber towel), rinse out any water and then spray one side with food grade silicone lubricant. The other side your hand will touch. Do not wipe on to the wind shield until the solvent has been aired out. The solvent can burn into your hands and may damage paint. Let it air out and you will know by the smell when it's odorless. Then apply to windshield.

I also use this same method to give my car a gloss. The key is to let the solvent air out first. The solvent is very strong. I have not had any wind shield issues. They say it is not recommended on paint because it can be difficult to remove from paint. I personally notice the slippery-ness goes away after a few months. Rubbing alcohol also removes it without damage to paint.

Food grade is better because it should not contain any other chemicals when dried out. To the point that it is food grade and safe to eat food from. This is the particular brand I have been using. I do not use the WD 40 silicone version. It has some type of chemical and not food grade. The WD has chemicals that stick to your hands. Pure silicone is 100% safe and food grade.

Wrong silicone can photo. That is oil based. This is the one I'm using. Got them from Zoro on ebay.

My stepdaughter’s Gen-4 also got a windshield ding that grew mysteriously. Like about a meter of total crack length, and in a matter of an hour or so. What was odd though, is that they weren’t going particularly fast at the time, so the impact speed couldn’t have been very high. So slow in fact, that the impact site was hard to distinguish visually at first.

I think I recall somebody else on PriusChat with a Gen-4 whose windshield cracking unexpectedly easily.

I personally suspect that Toyota’s glass makers’ curing process might not be controlled precisely enough, but obviously I don’t have any proof of that.

Chassis flex quickly accelerates windshield crack growth. There's no fix for that unless the OEM specifies a much heavier laminate.
