I looked at the 2017 wire diagram for Prius Prime and it's the same wire/color as bobthejedi posted. So the two model has the same wiring as far as turn signals..with exception of SB (light blue) wire on pin 6 instead of 17.

Looking at the Avest instruction, it looks like you don't need to go up that pillar to get to the purple wire if that is what you're after. The puddle light (room lamp as they referred it), you can just tap into the little foot light wire which is right under the dash...

BTW, which wire is the constant power? I just ordered the lights so haven't actually busted out my multimeter to test but thought that you may know since you went through it alread. Thanks.

Did a little exploratory research today while waiting for the parts....I involuntarily uttered a few curse words in the process. I found the left/right signal wires...but how the heck are you going to tap into those. I mean I can barely get one hand in there. Is there a way to pull that plug out so we can at least splice/solder the new wire tap in?
Anyways, at this stage, I think I may have to resort to Plan B...tap the signal wire from the rear and run the wire up under the carpet. May be easier this route unless someone has a better suggestion..

I was able to find room on my rear signal wires, It was definitely too tough for the front signal lights wiring as there there no room.
its tight, but here a pic of what I did

Here is where I chose to stash the button controls, I figured I wouldn't be changing it much and its easy to reach just popping this panel out

Yeah, I can either go up to the actual dome light location as well, but that requires wiring up the A pillar...

I guess I've never looked, but do the footwell lights work when you approach the car and unlock it? or do they only work once you open the door?

I sent you a reply, but the constant is right across from the P outlet on the interior fuse box, the fuse cover lid should show it.

How do you know "for sure" those are the wires before you do the wire tap? I'm working with the Prius Prime so I'm not 100% sure..even though saw the diagram..kind of want to test it first with the multimeter but it's so tight in there I can't get anything in..

You are right. That foot well light only turns on when door is open...also, the clip on the pillar is reusable if you don't break it...

Hmm...let me think here...The rear wire signal wires must be coming from that ECU...running along under the driver's side door sill/cover. We know the color is yellow for left turn and light blue for right turn...Hmm...at least on theory :D

Holy cow I found it. Hahaha. Found the yellow left rear signal. Now where is the right rear one.

Oh somebody stole my fluke 87v meter :(

Heck, I tested all the SB (sky blue?) color wire and none are the right side signal. I found a constant (+) so which is good..but could they label the wire color wrong???

That will not Work. The footwell lights don’t turn on when u approach plus they stay on at night.

The passenger side won’t t be in the loom on the driver side. The tail light harness splits under the dash.

Haha, I tested first with the multimeter and got a fluctuating voltage in time with the signal and then inserted the bare wire into the that pin to make sure it worked fully before tapping in.

Just re-read this, You can make it easier on yourself by pulling out the left knee panels (same on prime?) that have the high beam auto and hood release gas cap release, I think there may be one screw in there, but can't remember. They should pull off fairly easily. makes working in there a lot easier which I now understand what you were asking. I'm still going to do a write up on my install, just been sick the last few days...

Any tip on how to run the wires through the rubber grommet into the carbin? The grommet end on the door side I saw a couple of bolts. Does removing these bolt loosen it u making easier to fish the wires through? Thanks

yeah, you'll have to remove those two bolts to access the rubber boots, you can roll/slip off the flatish part on itself, I found using a screwdriver or wirehanger was enough to push the smallest wire through (the black and white), then wrap other wire onto it and pull through, I learned that trick wiring CAT 5E cable from a cable installer friend.

I found that there wasn't much benefit to undoing the door "restrainer" as it only allowed me to open the door maybe a half inch or inch further, not worth the effort to put that thing back on.

You should also have some tweezers or small screwdrivers for the door connectors female/male connectors, you have to lift a locking plastic piece 1 mm so you can put in your additional pins. I didn't know this the first time so I spent a good 30 mins swearing about why they wouldn't just click in...

Of course test your connections on the multimeter after to make sure they are all making good contact. You and I have the same multimeter too!

    Thanks bobthejedi

I think I know what you’re talking about. The extra wires comes with the pins already?
On the connector there is a bar across that you have to pry up 1mm or something then you insert the new pins then press he bar back down to lock them in? Is that what you were referring to?
Also these pins only go in one way right? So if you don’t here a click then just flip then around and insert? Thanks.

    Yep!
Yeah they come with their own pins you have some spare places to put in your own female/male pins in their respective connectors. doesn't matter where you put in, just as long as they match up respectively.

Just make sure to separate the left (shorter) and right (longer) strands by length, I don't think they are labelled such so just keep that in mind

This is an off-topic but you guys happen to know which wire is a headlight/taillight/licence plate light (they're all the same...when you turn on the headlight, all those lights are on). Basically I'm looking for a wire that gives a +12v when headlight are turned on. Thanks.
