I am going to miss my pearl white '17 Four Touring, but a change in jobs (read: commute) necessitated HOV lane stickers. So, I'm the proud new owner of a brand new (leftover) '17 Prime Advanced. Switched up the color from blizzard pearl over black to classic silver over moonstone. While the Prius saw just 5,000 miles in the 1 year I had it, this new Prime will see 20,000-25,000. Whew!

    Thanks!

It's actually my other half with the new commute. So I'll be taking over our '18 NXh while he will now be the primary Prius driver.

Old drive = 4 miles 1-way within Oakland.
New drive = 44-52 miles 1-way (!) to East San Jose, dependent on the route.

It's a phenomenal job opp, otherwise he'd/we'd never have considered it.

If you ever want to show off either, check out the Bay Area meet up thread;).

We own an RX450h and a Gen3 Prius:).

The wife loves the RX450h and I’m sure you feel the same about the nxh (y).

Any possibility of being able to charge at work?

No, not at the site, unfortunately. Perhaps sometimes during lunch at Whole Foods. We have a level 2 charging station at home for 1x day charge (originally for our Fiat 500e).

Some people have brought it up with their employer and had some success. The best tactic seems to be to not to make it a request, or even a suggestion, but to bring it up as a discussion about whether they may eventually install some charging stations. Maybe even offer to do some research for them as far as cost and possible tax incentives. Could be a long shot but it could also pay off.

No stickers, yet. We'll be the first to apply for them so we'll receive the new red ones good through (or to?) 2022.

. It's definitely worth bringing up! 25 "free" miles coming home would be fantastic.

I would totally rock a Prime Advanced if I lived in the mountains or hills. Free charging everyday.

Thanks for the update. I’ve been watching for your car on highway 13. And I recently turned down a job in Menlo Park due to the terrible commute. Plan your trips and watch the 511 report.
My bf doesn’t like looks of the prime tail end, the tails lights and the batmobile hatch. I say it’s all cosmetic; sheet metal and glass. It’s what’s inside that matters.

You'll catch me on 580 a bit more than 13 (even though my house is sandwiched between the two).

I'm indifferent to the rears, I like each for different reasons, but I will say I much prefer the Prime's brake lights. I always felt that the G4 Prius' brake lights were too small, and too low. This was proven when driving home on Sunday, next to a classic silver Prius (see pic).

Yeah, the drive will be awful, there's no doubt. I'm just thankful I won't be doing it (my partner will be). He wanted the job, so .... o_O

My son moved a mile from his office in San Mateo after over a year of commuting from San Jose. Now he rides a bike to work. Not enough HOV lanes to consider a Prime for his old commute. Each time I visit the Bay Area, I am appalled at the traffic.
I can't wait for the Prime to get a Tesla-like range so it can go 300 miles on a road trip without charging. I think it is a beautiful design, and love the Gen Four as well.
How does the drive differ from a Gen Four? Have not yet seen a Prime in any NC dealer.

I am kind wishing I had bought the Prime in the first place with my 21 mile commute. My dealer didn't have any (Idaho is weird) at the time and I was originally looking at the C which the Two Eco was a huge step up from. I also hadn't looked too deeply into the Tax incentives either. If I were to do it again I would get the Prime Advanced in a heartbeat. Not to say that I don't like my '18 Two Eco, I just really want a plug-in.

My dealer salesman rang me last week asking me if I wanted to upgrade to the Prime. I've only had the car just over 2 years and only done 5.2K miles so I'm not ready yet and my low mileage doesn't warrant spending another £10k to upgrade yet. I'm waiting to see what Toyota's EV offering, out in a couple of years, is going to be like and what the price will be.

Yes, East/South Bay traffic is a mess.

The Prime is a softer, slightly quieter vehicle. It is not as sporty as our '17 Four Touring was. I much preferred the suspension and handling on the Touring. Not having the gas engine kick on for the first ~25 miles is the best part of the Prime. It's a serene experience that makes you yearn for more mileage (ala Chevy Bolt). We just couldn't pull the trigger on a GM.
