17" OEM Toyota Wheels - Anyone?

    [I've searched the forums and found very little on OEM wheel swap - not after market wheels]

    Has anyone installed Toyota OEM wheels? I'd love to see your pics! :)

    I'm not a huge fan of the Prime's standard 15"ers. Maybe I need longer than 3 days to adjust to them, but my former 2017 Prius Touring had 17" wheels as did my 2012 Prius Five, and I sorta miss that look.

    These pictured here are two options from the current gen Corolla 'S' model. They seem to be the same bolt pattern, I'm curious how they'd look. I saw one forum member's Prime with Toyota 86 wheels that looked great, but I don't want to deal with spacers, etc.

    Your only real problem with your two pictured choices are weight, Toyota OEM 17's are heavy.

    Unsprung weight is your big enemy on a PP. Try to figure out the weight of each of your proposed wheels before you buy them & list them here.

    I have seen some people upsizing tires on Prime, and I know some of Prius models do come with OEM 17" wheels standard. But, are there any advantage of bigger wheels on Prime other than looks?

    I'd be doing it more for looks (personal preference), but improved handling should also be achieved. To me, it's more pleasing to see a larger wheel than larger tire sidewall. It's likely a combo of suspension tuning + 17" wheels, but my 2017 Prius Four Touring felt much more connected to the road around curves.

    But you will pay for those looks and handling through lower efficiency and thus shorter EV range. Or through a high price tag for a wheel and tire combo that doesn't increase in weight.

    Perhaps I'd be better served finding Prius Touring wheels. Those yielded great [EPA] mileage in my 2017 (lifetime of 5,300 miles was 52.4 MPG, and I live in a hilly area).

    I'm totally with you on wanting/needing 17" wheels, but I'd never consider OEM 17's because of the added weight, I
    guesstimate the weight of each of your Corolla wheels at roughly ~25 lbs. Based on averages you'd end up at ~44 to ~46 lbs
    per wheel/tire which is roughly ~29% to ~35% above stock OE.

    I'm Totally Encouraging You to go with your 17" wheels & tires, I'd just recommend that you'd look at all your different options
    so that you keep your unsprung weight as low as possible based on your budget.

    As an example: I just bought my 17" tires which weigh in at 19.2 lbs each, I'm still making my final decision on my 17x7"
    wheels. If I buy the wheels that are currently at the top of my list, they weigh in at 17.0 lbs; so theoretically my wheel/tire
    package would weigh in at 36.2 lbs.

    I had the 17" rims on my Gen 3, boy what a difference in comfort with the 15" I've got with the Prime, the handling is also much improved, probably it would improve more with the 17" rims but for sure at the expenses of both comfort and fuel economy.... the design of the 15" OEM rims is not bad too, in fact I've bought another set of OEM rims for the winter tyres. Also even if OEM rims are more expensive of non-OEM rims you don't have to deal with centering rings, which may cause offsets and induce vibrations.

    Thanks for sharing that pic. If our US Primes came with those wheels I'd be completely fine with them. It's the plastic wheel cover thing that I just don't like. And the wheel beneath it isn't my favorite, either. I was in Rome in October and didn't see a single G4 Prius or Prime, but many G3s.

    The rims on 2012~2015 PIP were good, the only decent 15" rim on a Prius.

    Does anyone know if the 17” wheels off of a 2012 Prius v advanced wil fit on the Prime? And if so, do I have to reprogram the tpms?

    They won't fit, unfortunately they're 5x114 bolt pattern...

    Well I don't see why you can't get the OEM (EU) rims through your Toyota dealer, my second rims set came directly from Japan after two weeks from the order.
    In fact here Gen 4 here are very rare. Unlike Gen 2 and Gen 3, Gen 4 did not encounter the favour of taxi drivers and citizens sensible to environment issues for several reasons, the main one being the fact that other Toyota hybrids are a lot cheaper (Auris/Corolla) or more functional (Auris SW, Prius V etc). The Prius Prime (Prius PHV here) has no chances at all here, too pricey (10000 Euro more than Gen 4) too long for the typical urban parking spot, only 4 seats with reduced luggage room, and (coup de grace) there are no Government incentives.

    That said, I am happy, enjoying the EV drive in the city and feeling like I was driving a custom car..

    I received a tire and rim from the dealer as a part of the sales agreement since my 2018 Prime didn't have a spare.

    So...I still have my Michelin X Ice tires and they have enough tread on them to go through another winter.
    In the past I had them swapped on to the rims of my Prius (2011) & then 2015. Now that I have another available rim
    I decided to put the snows on their own rims.

    I found some after market rims at Tire Rack that were similar to the factory rims, but I was concerned that they wouldn't be an exact match. I found some rims on Ebay - they were listed as 2009-2015 Prius rims, but they looked like my rims.

    I sent the seller a photo of my rim with the numbers and he indicated that it was the same as the rims he was selling.
    He accepted returns, so I bought 3 rims from him. I had them installed and all is well. The tire store told my
    wife that the wheel covers don't fit these wheels, but the wheels look good, and it's only 2 1/2 months until they come off.

    In short I obtained some factory wheels that fit for ~$100.00 each shipped. Here's one of them (3 separate purchases):

    Rob, do you have rim strength measurements besides going strictly by weight? I ask because although even the best can crack if there is enough impact, I'm guessing the heavier OEM's can take more stress than lighter made-in-China rims. I'm sure there is a balance between weight and strength and cost (pick 2), just no easy way for a consumer to see a rim's strength (if potholes aren't an issue in your particular area, obviously this concern will have less relevance. Otherwise, plenty of examples of bent/cracked/broken rims).
