    good day to All,

Im having a problem with my prius right now. My dash shows check hybrid system and when i press on the brake pedal, the power button light turns green. As i press it, its still green. But when i let go of the brake pedal it goes back to orange light on the power button. I had replaced the 12v battery and cleaned the throttle body with throttle cleaner and still same thing.

Anyone think that it will be my hybrid battery is the one acting up or the inverter as i read sfrom some other threads.

    Please help.

    Thanks.

    Ahlvin

The power button sounds normal to me unless I'm misunderstanding you.

The check hybrid system is not, of course. Your battery is mighty new to have failed. I think I'd start by checking that the coolant is flowing as it should in the inverter coolant tank. If that looks good, you'll need to have the codes read by a Prius literate code reader. Actually, you'll probably need to read the codes either way. The hybrid system is just that -- a system. It's not just a part you can replace.

The coolant is flowing. It just happened yesterday.

Code seen was 0901 and 0930. I think the hybrid battery is already dirty. I need to bring it to the dealer and i think it will be still covered.

Thank you for your reply though.

Your location says, "Carson." Is that Carson, NV? Sounds dusty. You might have a dirty battery fan. That's not uncommon for pet owners or dusty environments. Keep us posted. Everything someone learns improves our knowledge base. Hope it's an easy fix.

    Good day Sir,

Not Nevada. Im in California and i dont have a pet that goes in and out of the car.

Also, ive learned from a guy who specialize hybrids that in time, the slot or the gaps between the battery cells accumelating dusts and hairs that doesnt allow the cells to breath and have room to juice up.

He charges $250 to clean the battery cells. If your car is under 150,000 miles or within 10 years. Dealership still covers it. But once the battery has been replaced, the warranty will be for 3 years or 65,000 miles.

Hope this infor help all the prius owners out there.

    Thank you.

    No worries.

Every 30k miles, the hybrid battery cooling fan needs to be cleaned. But i was thinking that since the fan spins slow, if i put a computer fan on the vent and the air going torwards the battery, the battery might get more dirtier fast since theres more air that is going in.

I do not know what to do yet. But if i have any update on this i will make a post.

    Thanks replying.

    Thank you.

Thank you for the info. My car is at the dealer right now and they called me earlier and told me that the technician drove it for 11 miles and everything seems to be fine. No erro message on the dash. So i told the guy who called me to try running it with A/C. He told me he’s stuck since no message on the dash is popping out. I told him to check and run a diagnostic to find out. Also, he told me that i should clean the hybrid fan. Lol.

Im still waiting for the end of day to what the dealer will say.

I will write an update to it.

    Thanks guys.

    Good day Members,

So after taking my car to toyota dealer, it came to my surprise when the person who was handling the case for my car called me after a day i brought the car in and he said “everything is fine so far, and no message on the dash board came out saying please check hybrid system” so i still insisted that i really saw the dash message of it and my car wouldnt run and once the engine starts, after a few seconds it will just die on me.

Before bringing to the dealer, i had just taken out both terminals of the small battery at the back and Cleaned the fin of the hybrid battery. Thats all. I didnt try to start it before taking it to the dealer and i couldve saved the towing money that day. Lol.

Thats all i did when everything started working back to normal. Until now that it has been like 2-3 months that im not getting any problems.

Hope this helps and until now this issue is still a big question mark for me to what the resolution of that warning message.

Glad it's working. A low 12V battery, or one with loose connections, can cause spurious codes.

This comment has me baffled, though. What is this fin you cleaned?

    Good day Sir,

The fin is the little fan where its sucking air from the vent of the hybrid battery to keep it cool. Its located where the vent is. You have to take out the vent panel and alot more stuff to get to it. Its attached to somewhat like an induction plastic that goes straight to the hybrid battery.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Are you talking about the HV battery fan ? If the fan is clogged, it’ll cause a check engine light stating that the HV battery is overheating. Make sure to clean it every 60k or early if you live in a dusty area or have pets that sheds.

Thanks. I know about the fan. Couldn't get there from "fin," though. I usually struggle to interpret typos. ;) Hopefully, you're in good shape now for a long time. (y)

I would also recommend looking into an inverter failure as Toyota says the car will illuminate all warning lamps, put the car into limp home mode, then eventually shut the car down completely. Sometimes, these events cant be duplicated at the dealer but you should ask if DTC codes P0A94, P324E, P0A1A, or P3004 was present upon inspection.

    Hi Jack,

    Thanks for the insights though.

Will those codes come out on an ob2 scanner?

sorry not to sure what codes register on those types of scan tools. But, if the dealer ran a "health check", they should be able to tell you the exact codes that were present that day.

The problem with using a scan tool now is often the technical instructions tell the dealers to wipe the codes and try to "re-create" the problem. That means the code is not in your history and then the dealer probably legitimately couldnt re-create the problem.

Thats why Id recommend asking the dealer to check your "Service Lane History" for the DTC codes the date you were in

    Hi Jack,

    Thanks for the advise.

When i brought my car to the dealer all the history was lost per toyota because i had unhooked the accessory battery the reason that the history was gone? Then i said why is the mileage still there if it get reset? Lmao. Wish that the mileage had reset too. Ha ha.
