I bought a brand new 2016 Prius in Sept 2016. It has slowly gotten this anomaly on the steering wheel. I utilize sun shades for the windshield and the windows when stored. I drive on the 9/3 positions. I have 29k on the vehicle right now.

What can be done? Is this something that would be covered under warranty?

I been looking for white and black steering wheel cover myself. I think that would look sharpest for the interior since the interior is black with that white trim.

Yes - should definitely be warranty. My MAZDA did that just before the 3yr warranty, and they got a new wheel for me.
[EDIT - that was a long time ago - about 1999]

    That is how mine started.

    69EDEA7D-5325-41AD-BDDB-4FF07B6F7376.jpeg

I had only one blister — at 12 O’Clock — but it grew and grew and eventually broke like a sunburn. Seems to have stopped growing now.

I went through the classic stages of grief but over time reached the acceptance phase.

I am not perfect myself, so if anything my bond with this car is stronger now .

(Full disclosure, I goosed the MPG upwards on the dash. Not sure why I felt compelled to do so, but figured since I suck in my gut when others take pictures of me, I could do something similar for my Prius. Out of respect.)

Still that seems like a defect to me. I have a 2016 that will be two years old on June 28. No problems with the steering wheel yet, but I have only a measly 10,600 miles on mine.

76 000 miles on a 2016. That is amazing. Is that driving for work?

I got my wheelskin cover and attempted to install it, but did not like the fit. The concave spoke at 6:00 o'clock has a decided gap. Will call and talk to them and see what they have to offer...

I just took my 2016 with 31,500 miles to my preferred dealer in Cerritos CA. I showed the service manager the cosmetic damage at 12 o’clock on my steering wheel and he immediately told the service writer to order a replacement for me.
He said that he would replace it at no cost. It pays to develop a relationship with a dealer service department.

Wheelskins wanted me to try to re-install the cover and take photos of the poor fit. At first I agreed, but then decided to decline. I sent the cover back to them with the supplied shipping label. All it cost me was my time, energy, and the $1.50 shipping envelope that FedEx insisted on me using. the NEW replacement steering wheel will be a much nicer resolution.

My new steering wheel makes my 30 month old car seem like new again. While driving my focus is centered on the smooth non-wrinkled finish. I hope this one lasts.
Even though I was clear in explaining how my original steering wheel developed flaws in places that I seldom had contact, the replacement reason on the invoice was "due to customer driving habits". I think that it is just Toyota not wanting to go on record as agreeing that there is a problem in their product.

28 months, and all is good. No flaws. No cracks. I caress her curves gently.... ;)
Do you guys put a Heat Shield in the window while at work?

With my first leather wheel (I think PRIUS is fake leather), I was advised to always put a cover over the wheel unless under cover - so, yes - like this one.

That's a great idea too. I wonder if those peeling Prius wheels are heat related? Or something else? I've been very fortunate so far. My car is constantly in the sun.

No heat shield - just intense heat.

I wonder if your dealer took the financial hit, or if there is some kind of unpublished program for this?

Seems certain that there was some sort of Toyota Corporation assistance. I had an interior chrome trim piece replaced on my Avalon at the same dealership.
