I’m especially interested in the screen. It could definitely go either way for me: Either a pain to see and control things, or a huge reduction in distractions, especially once Autopilot monitors speed for me, letting me concentrate upon the road in front of me.

I don’t disagree regarding the importance of reliability, but I don’t perceive any issues at all with range, for the vast majority of people at least. Granted, though, that depends *a lot* upon whether you can charge at home or not.

How old is your Model S (you said “early-adopter,” so I’m curious how early)?

I too have found the P.Prime’s EV range to be a lot more adequate than I expected — well over 90% EV on it. Then again, Austin (TX) is an unusually EV-friendly town, especially the parts where I live and work.

Admittedly though, I do have to actively work at it - plugging it in everywhere to keep it at >90% EV. A longer EV range would make things easier!

More or less the same situation for me, admittedly.

When I reserved my Model 3, I had recently started a new job that requires me to drive 19 miles each way, each day. Even though I’ve never had an accident (beyond very-minor fender-benders) in 40 years of driving, getting ADAS into my commute ASAP was high-priority.

Autopilot is more comprehensive than TSSP, but TSSP and BSM watching over me here and now has de-stressed my commute quite a bit!

I myself rarely need to take such long trips. I think the last time was about 20 years ago.

However, Porsche’s allegedly-coming-up 300KW fast-chargers, about 2.5 times as fast as Tesla’s Superchargers, might be good for that sort of driving profile, if they ever materialize in the US, become prevalent enough, and really do work that fast in practice.

At least based upon what the trip computer told me, my P.Prime got 56 on the open highway in pure hybrid operation. I have no idea what it gets in town on gas, because I pretty much never drive it on gas in town.

I would also like to hear such a write-up.

For me, I go to the gas station once every 2 months or so (excluding our fairly rare road trips), but I don’t fill up; I only put in a couple gallons. If I were to fill it up, I’d be going once a year, and the gas would become borderline-combustible! Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if the P.Prime would force the proverbial “sacrificial burn” if its gas gets too old; a Volt owner said that it does, at least.

As for level-2 charging at home, we have a gas dryer, so we were able to take over that circuit, so it cost “only” a few-hundred.

    USE THE MULTI-QUOTE FEATURE PLEASE!!

Hmm, I have a gas dryer too but when I measured the voltage in the outlet for the dryer with a meter, it showed only 120V or so. Are you sure gas dryers only run on 240V?

SKEWZ me .... Porsche - parent Co monkey killing smog Liars VW - says they will do what? tell the truth?
maybe they'll tell the truth on Neptune - but at present day competitive prices & tech - unless a car's traction pack is only ½ of its potential capacity, it's impossible to recharge 100kWh in ⅓hr.
Hey! Did you know VW can build an 'allegedly' virtually smog-free diesel car w/ more power, better price & better mileage than a Prius?

A gas dryer runs on 120V and gas. An electric dryer runs on 240V. Behind my gas dryer there's an unused 30A 240V socket I could easily re-purpose for EV charging.

No it's not. I regularly charge 3.3AH batteries at 10A - a 20 minute charge. Depends more on the battery type than the charger.

Yeah, I think I remember now, only electric needs 240V. Sadly we don't have a 240V in house and it's said to be up to $5000 to get 240V installed. That's a bit steep and doesn't seem worth it to bump my already 80%+ EV driving to 100% EV, not to mention the price difference. The main reason I put down deposit on M3 was because of possibility of self-driving, but that'd be at least 2 years away. Not worth waiting for ...

ergo the 'cost' .... which includes chemestry, pack size, thermal management, nationwide implementation of transformers ....
There ya go - depends on the batterytype - which includes cost - purpose - resiliency - longevity ETC. Devil is in the details.

I only countered the claim that it was "impossible", which it's not.

Well, I’m skeptical too, but I won’t rule it out, yet.

agreed - that's why my sentence started with the 'unless' qualifier.

true - if we live long enough, greater things may very well come along .... my qualifier being "May". And if Volkswagen hadn't been proven to be lying sheets, their notion of truth could be way more believable.

Indeed, it only needs 120V to run the motors once the heater is gas.

Worth pointing out though: At least here in Austin (although I’d in my other places too), you need to maintain a 20% margin on the usual 30A plug. I was originally going to buy the 30A ChargePoint-branded Charger, but ended up going with the 24A ClipperCreek LCS-30P, which has worked very well, BTW.

Your unless qualifier was wrong, which is why I deleted it. "...unless a car's traction pack is only ½ of its potential capacity..." Not true. I have put 3AH into a 3.3Ah battery in less than 20 minutes - and the battery type is similar to that in the Prime. I have also charged my Prime 30% in 7 minutes.

Lol if people are so sensitive here I'll just quit posting. The last car I bought was almost 20 years ago and it was a used Mazda 323. No joke.

No I didn't bash them, and I am a fan of the company. I just explained the basis of my decision. If I had the money I would buy the S.
