is it better during summer to park the prime in the garage or street parking? Asking for a DC summer. Also is it true that after I drive home from work I should let the engine cool down before I plug it into charge for the night ? I’m a new car owner .

better in the garage than in the sun. overnight doesn't matter.

it's best to let the battery cool down, not the engine, by not plugging it in until you need it, allowing for charge time of course.
if you are going right out, by all means plug in. letting it cool is just a good habit when you're not going to need it for awhile.

At times when I plug in the charge does not start for 10 or 15 minutes so I assume the car will take care of those kinds of so called problems. Always park in a garage.

I am not sure but I think it is when I have been driving a lot during the day. Just did it today when I plugged in. Others have mentioned it here and wondered if it was something wrong. The car has a mind of its own.

I'm new too. I would say to park it in the garage so you don't wanna DIE.
We did it so the Rogers workers stop ringing our doorbell!
Its also then easier (If you have a plug in your garage) to charge the car,
Your paint will also last longer,

If you know when you will next use the car, (like next morning) it’s best to plug it in using the timer which is set to have charging completed at the time you leave.

Oh no I meant a garage in the city or street parking. you have to pay to park in the garage in DC. Street parking is free . Garages in the city don’t have electrical outlets to charge. In most of them it’s just a big garage usually under a building .

So......that sounds like you don't have a good way to actually CHARGE your car.......and that begs the question: Why did you get a plug-in if you can't charge it ??

As for the parking thing, you have to think about whether protecting the paint and upholstery and tires, etc. from the sun is worth the price of indoor parking TO YOU or not. Maybe just not getting into an OVEN when the sun is shinning is enough to justify it.

    Um. Interesting question.

In summer, sure parking in shade is preferable to parking in sunlight.
Less UV rays that cause color fade, less internal heat produced through the glass to the interior.
I think the joke is: You know you live in Arizona, when you park 3 blocks away just to be in the shade.

Did not know about battery cool down.
That would be a separate system from the engine, so engine cool down I would speculate is not a concern.

Then letting the battery cool down before charging.
I just don't know it that increase battery life or affects charging rates.
My guess is most people with plug ins, plug in as soon as they park.

You ask an interesting question, if in regards to increased battery life.
Does your owner's manual offer any guidance on your questions?
I believe OEM battery life warranty is 10 years, yet perhaps prorated.

OP, let us know your findings & conclusions.

so street parking vs pay garage? i can't think of any reason to pay, unless crime is a problem.

When I looked last at battery warranty, degradation was not warranted unless so bad car wouldn’t run as a regular hybrid.

yes, not prorated, and the car would have to throw a code., just like any prius.

Parking outside could cost you more in car washes. A bird scored a direct hit on my Prime last night.
