Have to say I'm really happy with my new Prime. Bought it in early March when it was still freezing cold in Chicago and now as the weather warms up my mpg keeps surprising me. 1525567810509.jpg
Mostly highway miles with cruise set to 75 but with intermittent traffic. I let the cruise take me all the way to my exit. Just over 33miles of EV range.

My best is slightly higher at 455 but I didn't take a picture as that commute was 1.5 hours long and I couldn't wait to run in and use the restroom. This is my first Prius or hybrid of any kind, always had "performance" type cars with turbochargers and a heavy right foot averaging about 20mpg. With a 42 miles commute one way sometimes in heavy traffic I'm really happy I decided to get an automatic hybrid. And now my GF can move my car for me on street cleaning days so I can stop getting all those tickets! 1525568145019.jpg

Sorry for the wrong rotation on the pictures. First time posting from my phone, didn't know it was going to do that.

    Nice!

Though us early adopters (2017 model year) can only show "199.9" MPG max (displayed, at least).

I wonder if there's an easy software update that would let the 2017 models display MPG higher than 199.9. Is it a display thing or a software thing, I wonder... I'd like to see the real amount displayed too (on the 2017 models, the real amount IS figured in, but will only show up to 199.9).

Those results look possible but I would not count on seeing them too often:

33 mile EV range at 75 mph probably requires a good tailwind. Like 15 mph or so
The other 9 miles in HV have to be at 95 mpg to end up with 445 mpg over 42 miles.

    ---
On more normal days I'l guess
22 miles EV at 75 mph
Then 20 miles at 60 mpg
Total MPG for the 42 mile trip will then be 126 mpg

    ------
Charging at work would be a different story

This is a one way commute with leaving work fully charged.
The reason for the 33 ev range was the intermittent traffic, seems to regen enough to extend the range.
My typical commute home averages 200ish mpg, as always with some traffic. There is always traffic in Chicago, no matter what time I leave work haha.

    Gotcha.

FANTASTIC use of the Prime and Kudos to your workplace for putting in EV charging.
Sounds like you cut out a good 2.5 gallons a day of petrol from the 3 you would otherwise use.

No EV charging, we have an outdoor power supply for transporters and I just plug in there. I work for a motorsports team so you can imagine the grief i got when i showed up with a plug in hybrid haha.

Just beat my old record. 36.6 on EV range, lots of traffic today so plenty of opportunities for regen. 20180614_173226.jpeg

So Motovagabond what is your one way trip to work? I have 22 miles one way with a 24 hour shift and then 22 back home. Am I looking at almost never using gas if I get one of these?

Yes; if you 1. Charge at home 2. Charge at work and 3. Seldom drive elsewhere.
