Usually, when I go to a public charging station I get stopped by someone that is interested in us charging the car and actually once wanted us to teach em:D

Am I the only one experiencing this?
Is it because we have a different looking car?
Is it because Ottawa doesn't have many EV's?

    What do you guys think?

    No idea.
I have had our plug-in for 18 months, so far I have never seen a 'public charging station'. There is a group of charging stations behind a restaurant not too far away, but they are exclusively for Teslas.

I have my charging station at my home, and once a month I attend a board meeting for an NPO where they installed 2 charging stations for members. But they are not really accessible to the public.

I think that the general public thinks "electric cars" are Teslas and they probably not practical and cost a lot of money. When they see a Toyota Prius being charged they will think "I didn't know Toyota made an electric car" and "Is it actually practical?" and how does it work and what does it cost? Personally, I think Toyota has done a lousy job of advertising our cars and that is the result.

I had a guy who actually told me that a study found out that a Hummer was better for the environment that a Prius. He said that the battery caused more pollution when put into land fills or some nonsense like that. I looked at him waiting for the punch line but none came.

    This is absolutely true!

Hummers are tiny little birds that decompose much better and faster than Prii do. They also have very small "emissions.":D

No public charging station anywhere near me. Where I live, just driving any car that is not pick-up truck or SUV draws attention, but have never had anyone ask me about my PRIME.

Was at a public charging station and there was a guy parked next ti me in a big GMC SUV, who offhandedly asked me about my mileage, thinking I had just a hybrid. I educated him about how the various Plug In cars work (I have 2 now). I mentioned how infrequently I have to put ANY gas in either of my PI cars, he was blown away. I ended up being a Prime salesperson, but I did educate him on why a Prime isn't for everyone.

He was impressed with the Prime, as he really knew very little about EV's or Plug in Hybrids. By the end of 10 minutes he was actually asking where he could buy one...

I charged Pearl S when I bought her with TFS (Toyota Financial Services). It was very inexpensive (0.9%) and they were easy to deal with. ;)

Remember, you're in Canada. It's a "third world country". You don't find those high tech. thingies here. :)

One of the two local HyVee stores has free ChargePoint charging stations with the compatible plug. My workplace built a new parking garage that has 15 charging stations. "Free" charging, just have to pay to park in the garage.

People are usually surprised about the gas usage. I always tell them of my old commuter truck getting 12.9 MPG and my Prime averaging about 70+ MPG when you include the battery.

this may be a really stupid question but...I was at a local mall the other day and they had 3 different types of charging stations. 2/3 had different cords that wouldn't plug into my car. Are there only certain charging stations that are prime compatible? If so, is there a way to know which ones will work without pulling up, parking, and physically checking? Thanks lol

Check out ChargePoint app and PlugShare app. The Prius Prime is compatible with the j1772 standard level 2 charging stations I believe. I’ve only used the chargepoint one as it is near my house. Good luck!

The J1772 is a standard level 2 port. Were they DCFC chargers?

I've found that the cost of these public chargers is far more than the cost of gas on an equivalent per-mile basis. I don't know why I'd waste my money like that.
