If it helps, I collected all of 100 cc, from mid-September to mid-April, with 4000 km's travelled, on the button.

OCC installed... just waiting for new manifold gasket to come in the mail today. Wish I could put it all back together! Tempted just to use my old gasket. It doesn't seem cracked. Thoughts? @NutzAboutBolts in your video you mention it being "flat" how do I know what's normal and what's flat? I feel a slight bump when I roll my finger over it, so it's not quite flush with the manifold, however, it's not nearly as noticeable as the EGR gasket on the manifold which is about 2-3x as rigid.

The intake manifold is plastic, it shouldn’t feel flat that it’ll cause a vacuum leak. We always recommend changing the gasket to prevent future issues.

When I did mine I used a new manifold gasket. However, I did reuse the throttle body gasket.

How many miles do you go between changes? My new mechanic doesn't like the insert-style filters and recommended 8500 miles instead of 10K. Wonder if your issue is related to the 10K interval?

    DONE!

Re: gasket: mine came in the mail shortly after I posted. I compared and WOW - now I understand what @NutzAboutBolts meant by flat. Definitely get a new one when you do this!

Anyway - I haven’t done a coolant flush yet. Can I start the car being slightly low on coolant or should I preform that before trying to start??

Do the coolant flush since the coolant is already out. If the coolant is above the low mark, then it should be fine.

I follow the Canadian 3rd gen schedule, which is 6 months or 8000 kms (5000 miles), whichever comes first. We are low mileage; it's invariably 6 months and around 4000 kms (under 3000 miles).

I reused all the gaskets at 120K. No problems!(y)

Where did you ended up installing your OCC? Just curious.

For now it’s in the same location as yours. (y) Sorry @Raytheeagle :( hopefully I'll go low soon. But want to see how this does.

Well, my jack doesn't lift the car high enough to get stands under it! LOL. So I'm heading over to my father in-law's house tonight to use his car lift. That will be much easier anyway. (y)

As for the OCC install, here's a snap:

Well, that was one hell of a night, but it's done. (y)
    IMG_0437.jpg IMG_0440.jpg

Aside from spilling transaxle fluid all over the garage floor, my father in law's crappy no-name brand extension broke inside of his crappy-no name brand hex bit so I had to go find a new bit which proved to be tricky so late in the evening. Luckily, Hope Depot saved the day.
    IMG_0439.jpg

All in all, the worst part about the fluid changes is removing / installing that stupid cover! I despise those clips!

......but now everything is done. Here's what I preformed + the ~hours it took me.
(keep in mind, up until now, I have never done anything besides spark plugs & tire rotations, so I'm green, to say the least:oops:)

(First removed the wiper assembly & cowling)
    √ Spark Plugs –– 30min
    √ EGR Pipe & Cooler removal / clean / reinstall –– 7hrs
    √ Intake manifold & throttle body removal / cleaning / reinstall –– 5hrs
    √ PCV valve replacement –– 5 minutes ;)
    √ Oil Catch Can install –– 1hr
    √ Transaxle drain / refill –– 45min
    √ Coolant drain / refill (inverter & radiator) 2hrs

Started up the car this morning on a damp, cooler day, and NO KNOCK! So that's progress! (y)

In review, I found the EGR somewhat difficult to remove, and it was a struggle to get some of the coolant pipes loose... but easy after that. The intake manifold was even easier. Oil catch can was a breeze...and it really just keeps getting beter from there... although, TBH the fluid refills proved to be the most cumbersome / annoying for me. Not sure I would bother doing that again myself, especially if I didn't have a lift like I did this time.

Finally, I certainly can't end this post without a HUGE thank you to @NutzAboutBolts! Without his videos, I would've never even attempted something like this. He's a pro. I also greatly appreciate he shows you how to put things back together instead of just pulling the typical Youtuber trick saying "reverse what you did to take it off!" lol

    Cheers!

I think you are officially a member of the 'I survived the EGR' club. :D I think we need t-shirts!

I've done pretty much everything you have with the exception of the OCC...so I can feel your pain. (y) It has got to be a great feeling to get all that stuff done. At least is was for me!

I got bogged down doing my brakes ( see link in my signature if interested ). However, they are just about done now. OCC here I come! (y)

Yeah. I don't think I want to do that again, though. I might have to one more time...but hoping to get my hands on a 4th gen by then. :D

I know..it is a pain. However, now that I 'know how to do it'..the second time should be much easier. Good thing...because I have to do all of this stuff all over again on our 2010 ( it currently has 104K miles ).

BTW - I'm glad I suffered through the brake jobs on all 4 corners. Learned a lot and can apply that knowledge to our other vehicles because of the similarity ( we also own a Hyundai Elantra GT and Sonata ).

If you haven't had it off in a long time grit will kinda jam the mechanism of the plastic fasteners: rinse them out in hot/soapy water, work the mechanism, before reinstall. To remove, I start at the back removing fasteners, work to the front, then sneak it out from under the piece ahead. When reinstalling, work the opposite direction, and do the bolts just very loose at first, so you can shift it around for hole alignment. Don't forget to tighten the bolts after, but just firmly, say one-handed, hand on the middle of ratchet wrench.

A paint can opener tool is my favourite for prying up the plastic fasteners, sort of a flat blade screw driver with the tip bent into a 90 degree hook for prying. Also, a regular, slim blade screw driver, and a traditional prying tool, that can grab the fastener base if needed, when they're really stuck.
