i have a new 12v fully charged. Power button brings dash to life, orange triangle on the dash. Engine won't start. Moving shift lever only moves from park to neutral, won't go to D or R. Tried jumping with under hood contact point, no luck. Any ideas to try?

Need a bit more details of how we got here.

Is this a car you recently bought or do you know the history?
Was there a recent oil change?
Or any other recent work to the car?
Was the car driven regularly before it died?

For around $75 you can get some helpful diagnostic equipment
    - Android phone/tablet
    - elm 327 Bluetooth OBDII reader
    - torque pro app
You can see hybrid battery info, read error codes, clear error codes, and more.

What are you using to read the codes?
I'm guessing there may be something else.

Is the hybrid battery fan running loudly in the back?

check the 12v health, just because it is new doesn't mean it is charged. and sometimes they are defective.
make sure the battery connections are clean and tight, especially negative to body.

in the end, you might need a hybrid battery.

No fan sound. Used Fixx code reader. Ready light blinks twice and there is clicking in the rear of the vehicle associated with the blinking.

P0A80 is replace Hybrid battery Pack. The main big battery is toast.

The engine is turned over by the Hybrid battery pack powering one of the electric motors in the trans.

But it must not be a surprise though the mileage has probably tanked on you. Failed hybrid battery is getting to be the number one post in the G2 section.

Theres hundreds of posts about that battery and what to do. Use the search forum button up top and search hybrid battery.

There is more info that your reader is not picking up.

I'd want to see voltage data for 12v battery and the HV battery.

Either need to take it somewhere or buy the under $75 worth of equipment I mentioned.
