So, I'm researching Prius trims, and was almost decided on the Two Eco, based on the Two I'm driving as a rental at the moment.

But then I look at the Toyota brochure, and see this:
"Safety Plus Package (included on Prius Two only at no charge)
    – Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)37 and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)38 – Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS)35 with Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA)36"

    (See page 16 here)

I am disappoint, I was very keen on the Eco, in spite of no spare tire, rear wiper or tonneau cover. But the Safety Plus on the Two I'm currently driving is very valuable to me.

What gives? That seems a large thing to drop from a model that is (marginally) more expensive.

    What year?
Wasn’t the safety package made standard in 17?

I've looked at new models for sale online, you can see the Eco is missing the side sensors that are present on the two. It's a shame. When I get the chance I'll ask at a dealership how much it costs to add the safety package to the Eco. Would not feel good about paying extra for it though.

All I'm saying is I picked up my 2017 Prius in August 2017 and it had the TSS-P package at no charge. It wasn't first offered on the 2018.

This isn't the TSS-P, it's the safety package with BSM, RCTA, etc. All models have TSS-P.

Why not buy the Two then?

Yes, the Two Eco gets the most mpg but you can regain *some* of those by running a higher tire pressure and leaving the spare tire at home until you need it on a road trip.

The tonneau cover is a lightweight fabric one so you're not saving that much weight there.

Yeah, I have been looking at pics of both, the Eco loses out on the rear/front parking sensors too, obviously part of the safety package.

If the Eco doesn't have that, I'd almost rather stretch to the three touring, I like the softex seats and better speakers will please my family

Still scratching my head over Toyota's decision though, that's a lot of features to leave off!

Forgive the potential blasphemy, but if it galls you so bad, consider an Ioniq. Toyota does what Toyota wants, but what we think it should.

Just feel lucky you have such a variety of options.

    We only have two options
    • base which is reasonably equipped with DRCC, AEB & Lane assist; or
    • "I-Tech" which is $8000 dearer with Softex, 17", Cross Traffic alert etc etc.
Park Assist isn't offered at all in Australia - they must think we enjoy doing it manually. Nor do any of our radios have knobs or buttons:(

I think it is Middle East (?) which only has one variety of PRIUS, with only 15" wheels. Choose your colour only.

Yeah, buying a level that's missing features you want, for more money, and then spending to complete what's missing: don't go there.

I wouldn't try to hard to rationalize Toyota's decisions, just look them over and get what works best for you. I'd suspect the 2Eco level is a "ringer", in production to earn them brownie points.
