I purchased my 2017 Prius Prime Advanced from Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, Maryland on Monday, April 16, 2018. I traded in an Audi S4 (our other vehicle is a 2018 Audi Q5), and I plan to keep the Prime until something major dies. I will update this thread from time-to-time with my experiences as the car ages. I would encourage others to do the same. So, without further ado, here we go....how far will she go, using age and number of miles, without a major repair?
Current status: One month with 1400 miles (~400 miles to drive it back home from DC) and no issues whatsoever. I did change out the front "all weather mats" to the carpeted ones--Jim Coleman threw those in after I referred someone who purchased my trade in. I only switched out the front ones--the rear and the hatch area are still covered by the all weather thick rubber. When winter rolls around in about six months, I will change the fronts back to all weather.

Took the Prime up to Shelton Vineyards today. My wife and I enjoyed some wine, cheese and awesome scenery. Great times.

Noted, and corrected LOL....but while my wife was driving us home, I did notice that the Prime was a little more "happy" than usual!

Thanks for the question. More than one reason really. I’m lining up for an earlier retirement due to an unforeseen positive change. I was gonna keep the Audi longer, and work much longer, but with the retirement timetable change—and the awesome out of this world deals on the 2017 Prime, I decided to make the move now. Also, you cannot drive a car like the Audi S4 without breaking several laws—the Audi is a marvel, and begs to be driven to the edge. The temptation was too much—and everybody wanting to “race.” One day I just decided it wasn’t worth it. Huge maintenance costs (tires every 15k—very expensive. Super performance brakes big bucks, etc), and I’m only in the car for 1 hour per day average. Did I know this going in—yes, and I was willing to pay it. But now that my retirement timetable has changed and the costs of continuing to keep the Audi—I decided to cut my losses. My wife and I decided to keep her SUV (2018 Audi Q5), and use it for trips and weather extremes, and use the Prime for the to and from local trips—work, eat, shop, etc. I’ve decided to keep the Prime until something major major dies like the main battery. For once in my life—I’m gonna see just how many miles/years I can get out of her!

Good to hear. I too bought a 2017 Prius Prime just last month. Mine in Hypersonic Red. Loving it. My daily commute was killing my 2010 VW Tiguan. After 165k miles, it was time to put her out to pasture. Got a great price on it for trade in and got my new beauty. Only wish was that the ev range was just a bit higher. Able to get up to 35 miles on pure EV thus far. I know it will go down once weather gets colder again here in upstate NY. Otherwise, loving the car thus far.

I was once stationed at Griffiss AFB so I feel your pain! Gorgeous there in the summer, for sure! Love Thousand Islands! I'm trying to figure out a way for the landlord at work to install an electrical outlet outside so I can charge at work. If I can do that, I feel like the range is really 60 miles--that's some Prime math right there LOL!

Well, just made a whirlwind trip to South Carolina. Filled up after 600 miles (includes some back and forth to work). Averaged right around 70 MPG—did not take it easy. The Prime performed flawlessly. #noregrets

So I feel I came from the same boat as you. I sold my 2013 335is (most fun car I have owned) about 8 months ago, and purchased the prime. My current commute is about 70-100 miles per day, depending on the client. However, here is my dilemma. Although the prime is awesome, I am getting bored and miss the driving dynamics of BMW. The last 3 cars I owned were all 3 series with manual transmission, however I am also looking at SUVs next. A 3 year old x5 is on my radar. I plan on giving the lady the prime, which will be perfect for her commute. I feel like I lost my love for cars and I need it back. Ok, that is it. Help! Ha ha.

It’s funny Steve. I purchased my 2017 Prime 11 days after yours. It would be interesting to compare our 2 vehicles over time. Lol.

Hear, hear! I cannot help LOL--I say go for it! For me, I don't like looking in my rearview mirror and seeing Benjamins flying out of the back of my car! I'm very, very happy with the Prime!

I agree---check back here and let's compare as the weeks/months/years go by!

So yesterday, I parked the Prime in my normal parking spot at work at the rear of our building. I came out later in the day to store the charging cable, and a worker next door was spray painting a piece of metal about 20 feet from my car! I almost freaked! I jumped in and moved the Prime to the front of the building. After a careful check, no black paint made its way over--lucky there was no wind. Amazing how inconsiderate some people can be.....

At a place where I once worked I went out to the parking lot to find a giant air conditioning unit suspended directly over my car by a crane! I couldn't move my car because one of the cranes legs was blocking it. So all I could do was stand there helplessly hoping that the AC unit didn't come crashing down onto my car.

We have a snow removal contractor that blows snow off the sidewalk with a leaf blower... except he doesn't blow the snow AWAY from the car so some of our cars have snow packed inside the radiator grile

So today, I experienced my first ChargePoint charge! There was a unit in the parking lot right next door to Baskin Robbins at a cigar shop. I backed in and plugged up! Turned out it was free, but I don’t know if that means I’m compelled to go inside and purchase a cigar. I didn’t!
