I should have mentioned there's certainly nothing wrong with driving the car back hopefully I didn't give that impression. In fact I probably would if I had the time because I like seeing different places and I guess you could think of it as subsidized traveling since it would save shipping cost. However I would want to spend a few more days so that I could do some sightseeing. If I only had enough time for the marathon drive to me that wouldn't be enjoyable so I would have it shipped, or if for some other reason I just couldn't take the time off, which is what I was saying is the situation that a lot of people would be in even if they wanted the adventure of a cross-country drive. Which I still think not everyone does.

Going back to what I had said about sunroofs never leak....I have had over 30 cars and more then half have had sunroofs. 3 cars I have now all have sunroofs. I have never had a leaking sunroof. Even on my 30 year old Peugeot. I think more people then not want a sunroof when they buy a car.

I like mine for the light it provides - almost never actually open it up...

Like wise. I don't like to open them for the fear of them not sealing up when closing! :) LOL

I’ve never been a fan. Of sunroofs or convertables. The sunroof assembly takes away an inch or two or valuable headroom in the Prius. I remember shopping for my 2010 - I wanted the solar roof, which came w sunroof as part of the trim level. I got in and adjusted the seat and found that my head was touching the headliner. No go! I bought a 3. Again in 2016 I drove the 4 with hud and sunroof (sans solar panel, hmmm...) and again my head grazed the roof. For a tall man like me that sits up to protect lower back it’s a problem. I’m very comfortable in my 4 touring.

Maybe good to open and close them occasionally? Check the drains, gets the kinks out of the linkage, mechanism?

    He's in the US.

In North America, certain European manufacturers offer a European Delivery option (and some even have two locations, if there are 2 factories making the same model). It includes airfare and accommodations for two, temporary registration in the vehicle country of origin (I can't remember for how many days... maybe a week tops). You can pick up your car from the factory and drive around and when you're done, return it to the factory and fly home. They'll take care of shipping it to Canada or the US for you.

Not a bad way if your purchase of a car happens to coincide with the desire to tour around that region where the factory is located.

I know someone who did that with their high-end grand piano. It was suggested to me, but I'd have had to pay fares etc - so I didn't.

LOL! I hate sunroofs! The last thing I want while driving is sun in my eyes ESPECIALLY from above.
And they use up headroom. And they break.
FWIW: My dad's dull gey 404 (Lt. Columbo) sunroof leaked!

Had two 505's, sunroofs never leaked! But engines did!

Still going strong with my nearly 9 year old Gen 3 solar roof. I use my moonrood regularly and it does tattle when it’s opened as the roads around here are quite rough so I’m guessing all that shaking eventually got to the glass. But other than that, pretty happy with it.

I don't think a sunroof is even an option here in the UK on the Prius. The Prius+ (v) I had did have a tinted plexiglass roof with a blind that automatically opened when switching the car on (switchable option) and that did throw a good amount of light into the cabin, gave it a light, airy feel.

What effect does the sunroof have on wind resistance and mileage? Interesting how the Primes offer no sunroof option and the concave rear window.

they are pretty smooth when closed, i doubt it's measurable. the primes curved glass is there to make up for the horrid front end aero.

It's probably a weight issue since glass is heavy.

I read 25-45kg when I questioned it a couple of years ago. Or double that for a panoramic roof.
