I'm sure this has been asked and answered many times, but the search results for "red triangle of death" were so overwhelming, I wasn't sure where to start. Basic question re: my Gen 2: Does the red triangle always mean a bad traction battery, or could there be other causes? Thanks.

    Hi ,

I'm surprised you didn't find this answer in more of the threads you searched, but absolutely yes there are other possibilities. That triangle lights for a couple hundred different reasons. The car stores trouble codes to indicate why. With a suitable reader (that is able to query all of the Prius's computers), you can find what the codes were, and if you post those here, you can get much more helpful suggestions.

There are lots of threads on suitable readers, if you don't want to just head to the dealer to have the codes read.

Thank you. Sorry for the fire drill - was a bit of a panic question on behalf of my daughter, who's out with the car and just called about it. Turns out it was a false alarm: She was trying to drive the car with a door ajar. And as soon as she told me that, I realized I had seen the red triangle for that in the past.
