Ignore my last edited comment, it made no sense -sorry, my brain is multitasking with the hockey game on. My questions are mostly based around the available price that I can receive from a dealership.

I have a couple of 2nd gen Prii that are available for dirt cheap because the traction battery has failed or on it's deathbed. If the price is right, I'm thinking of putting an OEM battery in and keeping it long term. OEM batteries in my city are going for around $2,300 and that's too expensive. $1,600 is a much better number.

    All good points.
Like you did, I'm looking at different options for a replacement battery. For a new OEM battery, I'm still looking for a place that is willing to sell me a battery at a good price, and to actually have the inventory. It's interesting how an OEM item has such a range of prices around the country.

A good price is $2000 or less.

Items often have a different price when going store to store or in different parts of the country.

Noakevin, You did a great write up of your experience. And like you said it was not meant as a tutorial on how to do the replacement. I just wanted people to know that there were a few parts not mentioned in the description.

Our expansion team, the Golden Knights, have exceeded expectations. If I had the smarts to put $50 on them to win the Stanley Cup on a futures bet at 500-1, I might have been able to check out a brand new Prime.

    Has anyone ordered from megazip.net?

They ship parts from various countries (Japan, Singapore, USA, UAE, Russia) and the Toyota battery P/N G9510-47031 ships from a Japanese warehouse.
    The current price is: $2181.27 - 218.13 discount + 277.85 shipping to USA = $2240.99.
    Delivery is about two weeks.
(G9510-47031 - Battery Assy, Hv Supply, Toyota OEM | Megazip.net)

There is no core return, so the old battery can be sold after transferring the electronics. The modules can be tested and the good ones sold and the bad ones recycled. If I remember correctly, eLearnAid will buy the remaining frame / sheet metal after the modules are removed.
So the $2240.99 cost can be reduced somewhat by selling the old parts.

Also, there is no need to figure out how to come up with $3000 - $3300 to buy the battery, then return the core and wait for the $1350 refund.

Has anyone had any experience with them?

I don't know of anyone buying from them.
I'd be concerned of any import duties that may be associated with a shipment this large.

Is that $2300 for the battery, or installed? It seems I read in one of the threads of a Toyota store in Phoenix that sells the batteries for $1600. Phoenix isn't awfully far.

There's also an indie shop on Polaris, or maybe Arville, that will replace all your G2 modules with G4 modules for $1800 installed. I think they give a 3-year warranty with that. Might not be a bad option.

    Not installed.

I haven't heard of Phoenix selling OEM's for $1,600. That would be better than buying further away. I'll do a search, thanks.

The problem with some indie shops right now is that a lower priced OEM battery is close enough in price that it makes more sense to go that route.

$200-$300 for a used pack at most.
Less if it is a failed pack.

    My mom just bought a 2007 that started throwing P0A80, P3018 (module 8) and p3021(module 11).

I paid $400 to have both those modules replaced by a local guy who does just Prius batteries. Took about 2 hours. So far so good. Techstream shows all modules staying within .2 volts of each other during hard acceleration and max regen when before those two modules were off by 1 to 2 volts.

This was clearly a lot simpler to do than when I rebuilt my sisters IMA civic battery with chinese cells doing the PTC bypass.

Total cost was $400 with a 6 month warranty.

I wondered about that too since the dollar amount is so high. I checked on their website Shipping & Delivery page and found this:

"MEGAZIP IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY IMPORT DUTIES OR TAXES IN THE COUNTRY OF
    DESTINATION.
ALL ORDERS ARE SENT UNDER DDU INCOTERMS (2000).
IF YOUR COUNTRY HAS LOW LIMIT TAXES - ASK YOUR MANAGER HOW TO DECREASE THE PARCEL
    COST."
(Incoterms 2000 is an older obsolete set of commercial terms now replaced by Incoterms 2010.
The older DDU states that the seller pays for all transportation to the destination and customs fees, but not the duty and taxes).

So I emailed MegaZip.net and asked them:
How much is the duty for this item when shipped to a location in California, USA?
How and where is the duty paid?
How long is the delay at customs? Is the delay included in the 2 weeks mentioned above?

    The response I received is:
"Let us inform you that batteries unfortunately are forbidden for aero transportation and cannot be supplied.

We apologize for the inconvenience. We will delete it from our catalogue."

It appears MegaZip.net is only a valid choice if you're in Japan.

So in southern California my best choices by price for a battery with new modules are:

    # 2. in my list - eLearn Aid at $2100 installed (rebuilt with new Toyota OEM modules and connectors)
(Prius 2004-2009 rebuilt battery with brand new Toyota battery modules) or

    # 15. in my list - New Prius Batteries (2k1Toaster) at $1600 shipped for the kit of new modules, connectors, and hardware; and rebuild my current battery at the module level.
(New Prius Battery Kit (GEN2, 2004-2009) - New Prius Batteries LLC)

Sorka, please report back in 12months and let us know how it is going
    Thanks!

Side note... A local customer just called me to say dealer quoted them $4500 for battery replacement. Whoa. That is crazy. Sound like new computers were rolled into the cost.

Hi all! About a year ago the hybrid battery on my 2007 prius died (red triangle and P0A80) after 10.5 years and 158k miles. Here's what I did:

    - Bought a reconditioned battery w/installation and 6 month warranty for $600
    - 3 months later red triangle and P0A80 occurs. Replaced under warranty with another reconditioned battery.
    - 8 months after the replacement (4 days ago) the red triangle and P0A80 occurs again. The reconditioned battery is out of warranty at this point.
    - I look into getting a brand new battery so I call my local dealership for the price of the battery (SoCal) and get transferred to the parts dept. and they tell me it is $1950 and they have 1 in stock (which probably really means 50 in stock). Installation would cost $650.
    - I decide to have them do it but I have to drop off the car first so they can diagnose it. A few hours later the service dept. calls me back and confirms that it is the battery and quote me $3200 (1950 battery + 1050 labor + taxes). I tell them I already called earlier and was told that installation would be $650. He says OK and says something about it being an "over the phone special". I also mention that I want to use a 25% off coupon (up to $150 off) that I received via email. I think I was on their email list because they have worked on the car in the past. He says they will honor it.
    - The next day my car is ready and I go to pay and pick it up. I look over the invoice and notice that the numbers have changed, again. (1850 battery + 900 labor + 24 some item + 19 some other item + taxes - 150 coupon).

After some complaining I ended up with the following:
    1850 battery
    650 labor
    175.75 taxes for the battery
    -150 coupon
    2525.75 TOTAL

I urge everyone to be vigilant when dealing with these types of companies!! They will try to squeeze as much money out of you as they can. Don't let them bully you into paying something you shouldn't or already agreed upon. Good luck!

This company seems ripe for a class action lawsuit.

Did you happen to ask regarding installed price? I'd be curious to know the current going rate; to my eye there are some advantages to going that route.

I had a similar experience, albeit just bringing it in for an AC service. They DO NOT seem to understand the concept of a "price quote", LOL.

    Welcome to Prius Chat (y).

They didn’t give you an invoice to start your trip to them?

Typically when I have used a dealership, they start out with why I’m there and have all te line items listed along with the price;).

This saves on the back side haggling or having to be vigilant as I have what they said in writing :).

Good price for a new battery though (y).

    Egarden,
Do you feel like the $600 used battery was a good deal?
In the end you got use of a battery for longer than the 6 month warranty period.

But I suppose the car was down for a short time before the replacement was put in?
