I have the smart key system and it seems to function properly. I can unlock and start the car with the fob in my pocket, but the car will not start or even go into accessory if I insert the fob into the slot and push start. I have tried turning off the smart function still no luck. Does this mean the car is not properly programmed to accept the fob?

    Thanks
    Mike

I found an earlier thread with this same issue after the fact... the thread died off without a resolution. There was the mention of an rfid chip inside the case of the fob. If I am missing the rfid chip does this mean I cannot program another fob?

This would most likely be the case, if the original case was replaced by a new (and probably third party) shell where the RFID chip was not transferred over. Do you know the history of the fob?
Yes, if it is missing the RFID chip you won't be able to program a new key fob.

If you know the fob case is not original, you could open it and check.

Thank you!! I did not open up the remote as it is the only one I have right now. but there is an obvious pry mark so someone has been in there. I am going to take the fob over to a locksmith and have them scan the fob to see if a chip is in there before I proceed.
