Well. Thanks to some guy running a red light (
), I'm back to the forum for a/v advice in this gen 4. However... I do advise that everyone here purchase a dash cam because having mine saved me. The guy got out of his truck stating that his light was green, but the dash cam footage put the guy 100% at fault. Here's pics of my poor Prius Two. :(

Ouch, so sorry to see this, but glad you are OK. Looks like the car held up pretty well considering what hit you and the speed. I hope you didn't have a passenger.

Agreed about the dash cam, its the first addition I added after getting mine.

If Toyota or whoever would include dash cam on a level, or as an option, with the body prewired for it, I would be all over it.

Nobody on the passenger side, you're ok?

Change the 2 doors and you're back in business

Pain and suffering plus PTSD should help you pay for a replacement Tesla Model 3.......

No passengers thankfully. The officer said ' 24" of intrusion. ' The only thing that happened to me was gash above my right eye.

This sort of crash is one top reason I finally got rid of my '80s Accord, and would still like my spouse to get rid of her 80's Integra. Your Prius handled it far far better than any car of that era could.

Years ago, the very day after major news publicity about the annual number of fatalities caused by red light runners, I was almost nailed in the same situation. Except that I had a fresh green light, not a sudden yellow. And screeched to a stop 2/3rds of the way across the intersection as the oncoming truck swerved around just in front of us. Absent my panic stop, we'd have been hit at the very same point.

And my wife was in the passenger seat of an 80's car with vastly less side impact protection than this Prius. Because PU trucks and SUVs were exempt from passenger car safety and crash compatibility standards of that era, they completely missed the floorpan and lower door strength, aiming instead directly for the passenger's head.

Intrusion would have been far more than 24". My wife would have been dead, and I might not have been in very good shape either.

Did he say that to any cops? Maybe they could nail him for something, the lying weasel.

This type of lying happens all the time. Many cops in my part of town won't even come out to take a police report, unless there's someone hurt. If no injuries, you're on your own to figure out all the info.

The officer seemed to care less. He was more impressed with how the car took the impact than anything.

Glad you are ok. How hard is it to install a dash cam? The professional does it easily-without screwing anything up?

Oh hey, besides lying: there's running a red light, driving without due care and attention. Where is my mind...

I think about this too, but deciding on cameras (front and rear) and the complexity of an install always put me off. :(

This is my install, did it myself and it was very straightforward. Wires all tucked away neatly and currently plugged into the accessory outlet, but I am going to use an add-a-fuse to wire it into the fuse box when I get time.

I got Halfords (UK) to install mine when I bought it from them. Several phone calls to Head Office as their policy is not to touch hybrid electric vehicles, but ended up with hard wire from camera to a 12v socket. Works great!

My install is identical. All together it took around an hour. Rexing had an optional fuse wire kit that I bought to clean up the install even more.

I think ours would need a "dash cam whisperer"...

Well that was one hour well spent I reckon. Glad you weren't badly hurt.

Glad you're OK, @Gas Mizer. We live two blocks from a major thoroughfare here. Last night, within about two hours, there were three serious wrecks on that road at three consecutive traffic lights. One was "just" serious. One was a roll over. The first one, though, was a fatality loud enough to wake me up three blocks away.

I installed a dash cam a couple months ago. Wife kind of ridiculed it. After a couple more close calls that were the results of absolute idiocy by other drivers, she had me put one in her car. These people seem to think they're driving bumper cars at the county fair.
