Has anyone like me experienced an intermittent brake squeal noise from the rear of their car whilst driving? Please see video............

I have used my local specialist garage to replace both rear discs and pads along with the the nsr brake caliper - all to no avail - the noise is still there and is getting worse! ( the new pads had anti squeal treatment on them btw )

The garage also checked the rear drum and cleaned of some gunk in there along with checking the parking brake cable - all ok.

When I press the brake pedal whilst driving the sound stops - also I have tried the braking exercise in Neutral gear from 40 mph numerous time...

Please can some one help me because I have already spent more than £300 trying to sort this out and I am worried something might seize up whilst on the motorway?

Done 176,000 miles, 2005 Gen 2 T Spirit with full Toyota service history purchased in March 2018 with 172 k on the clock. Averaging 56 mpg in town and 70 mpg motorway driving.

It sounds like UK 2nd gen rear brakes are disc with integrate drum brake for parking brake function? That's similar to US Prius v I think.

I'm not sure what your issue could be, but maybe for starters check if the rear brakes are dragging. The simplest method would be to feel the wheels after a drive, see if they're hot. More direct would be to chock the front wheels, raise the rear and see how freely the wheels spin. There might be slight drag, but they should easily spin a revolution or two, with a good push.

What does "nsr" stand for, btw? You have new brake calipers?

Many thanks Mendel, unfortunately the repair garage has already spun the wheels as you described and they spin fine - and the rear wheels are cool after a drive - I used a botle of water sprayed on them to check...

Yes nsr stands for near side rear

Its counterpart is OSR - off side rear. Similarly for the front NSF and OSF. It is also in relation to where the driver sits, so the near side is the driver's side and the off side is the passenger side. Obviously whether it is the left or right side of the car depends whether the car is RHD (as in UK and 25% of the world) or LHD (as in the rest of the world).

Because of all of the above, I prefer using LHS or RHS which is of course from the perspective of sitting in the driver's seat looking forward.

Trying to figure out the problem would be a lot easier if you posted the video so that we could watch it. I don’t think anybody has been able to watch the video?

Or just avoid acronyms, if you would like to for sure be understood.

Yeah Googling, I found some manufacture of an NSR caliper, company name or something. Was going down the rabbit hole, lol.
