    Hi Everyone,

Haven't been here for a while and just wanted to share a few things. Been enjoying my PiP, telling most everyone to get a PiP/Prime if it fits and this forum for research. I'm at around 188.5K right now which is higher mileage than most people for a car I've had for exactly 5yrs this week and it has been a great car.
    • I've replaced the brakes ZERO times. I love telling people and mechanics that and there's still about 1/4-1/3 of the pad left. Which brake pad do you recommend for replacement?
    • I've replaced the battery once. At $200 a pop, it's not too bad if I have to replace every 3yrs.
    • I'm on my 3rd set of tires - Bridgestone Ecopias.
    • I've replaced the cabin filter once.
    • I'm on my second set of wiper blades.
That's all that has been done to the car in regular maintenance aside from the oil changes that happens often. I do have to replace my shocks and do a major tune up soon. All in all, it has been quite a maintenance free car that I spend around 24% of the time in EV.

With the ending of the Memorial Day sale today, I'm considering the Prime Premium. The biggest thing holding me back is the missing 5th seat...

The lifetime would be approximately that - about 24%. When I had to change that battery, it reset that data - so bummed about that. At that time, I was around 110k (?) and was around 18% EV. Things changed in the past year when we got free ChargePoint at work, so I was charging 2-3x a day. I typically change oil every 7-8k, but I saw some documentation from Toyota stating 10k is all good last year, so I started upping the interval. I think this PiP can easily go another 150k.

Just an hour ago, my coworker is thinking about buying my PiP and I would sell it to her around $5k due to my mileage. Very tempting to put it towards a 2017 Prime...

Do it and get a “northeast” deal on a 2017 Prime. Check with Jim Coleman in DC—hurry because they are running out!

Smaller hatch? Hmm... I guess I should look at the trunk dimensions. I've been impressed with the amount of stuff I've been able to jam into the trunk on the PiP.

Too bad I'm in the North West. Still, I go through Costco's Auto Program which has been nice not having to haggle for a deal.

Keep us up to date! I'm at 126k and bought it right about 5 years ago now. Also around 23 or 24% EV. I don't think I'm burning any oil yet.

Have you pulled the calipers off, cleaned everything?

Also pulled out, cleaned and removed the caliper pins (choose your lube, I've found Sil-Glyde Brake lubricant to be good, and does not swell the rubber O-rings on rear pins). On reassembly, I like Permatex Anti-Seize, a thin layer on all contact points, pads to shims, to caliper.

Also, in particular if there's any pulsing, check the rotor runout and thickness against spec, with dial gauge and micrometer respectively.

The US service interval for the above is 36 months or 30K miles, whichever comes first.

Also, ever change the brake fluid? @NutzAboutBolts has a good video on this, pinned in maintenance section.

With that amount of miles, the EGR and intake manifold could likely use some attention. Or is it trade-in time, lol.

Brake info from Repair Manual in attachments:

Thanks for the info! I'm at this strange juncture of flip-flopping on the Prime. I could avoid all this maintenance if I switched, then again no car payments would be nice too. I'll keep this in mind if I decide to save money. I did read about the brake fluid thread earlier and was thinking, I need to do that. No pulsing on the brake - the disc seems to be in great shape. Maybe resurface it anyways when changing pads.

Wife left the Prime decision to me. I kinda wish she had a strong opinion about it - lol.

I’ve been flip flopping myself, wrestling with the same issue:sick:.

Then I remember no car payments is fantastic and think about what options will exist 4-6 years from now:).

I’d perform the egr maintenance along with a trans axle fluid drain and fill and let it ride;).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Have you seen any degradation with your EV range?

Mine's nearly a year older but much lower mileage (61k miles), and the guess-o-meter fluctuates throughout the year but my effective range hasn't changed at all in 2 years since I got it (around 9.5 miles or so with many hills).

It's probably on the original brake pads too, but I had to replace the rear caliper slide pins this year due to corrosion (they were seized). Certainly worth inspecting, and lubricating if they're still good.

Personally I've definitely seen some battery degradation, but not a ton. My very rough estimate would be around 15-20% total, which isn't bad considering the car is 5 years old now and the C rate for using up and filling up the battery is pretty high with regen.

For a year, I've been charging daily once at night, once during the day and maybe one more time in the evening to run errands. Prior to that, it was pretty much once at night for the next day and maybe one time during the evening to give you some sense of charge usage. As Markabele mentioned, it has been quite minimal and I'd guess around that same percentage. If anything though, the EV miles displayed is more accurate after it has evaluated my driving style, so really it's hard to tell if I've got actual degradation or just a degradation of the EV estimate. With your car being young, I'd say you're good for a nice long time. I have a lot of hills around my area - burning up close to a mile in just two blocks on some streets.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Prime. Maintenance that I need to perform will be considered savings at this point ;)

I think I'm about to flip. It'll be the Advance because there's no Premiums around. Here's how I'm looking at it right now:
    • Registration expired yesterday. Going to pay the PNO fee in preparation for sales transfer, so avoiding a $350 bill.
    • The EGR maintenance, Transaxle, brake maintenance that several have mentioned will be avoided. Not sure what the cost is going to be for those, but that's a savings. Totally appreciate the advice - would've done it if I decided to keep the PiP.
    • Shocks have messed with my new tires and were going to replaced later this year - would be all four of them and I estimate the cost around $800.
    • Still need to do the major tuneup. That's like $600-$700.
    • Oil change will be due in another month, but that's like $60.
    • The scuff on my fender from some jerk back when mildly annoys me, but I never fixed it.
    • I'll get $4500 from Federal and $1500 from State rebates.
    • I've got a friend buying the PiP for $5500 (great deal despite the high mileage)
    • That $2000 Toyota rebate and 0% financing was what triggered this.
So, tallying things up in selling, rebates and savings that I could put towards the Advance is around $16,000. Dealership in my area is offering the Advance at $29,900. So, about $14,000. Well, that's how I'm justifying it.

I'm in the same boat....but for me it's trying to hold off on a 1st generation PIP...not a Prime. :D If I trade in my 2012 Sonata Limited, I'll still have to pay a few thousand to acquire a PIP. And the Sonata is paid for...and is basically a 'luxury' vehicle ( as far as Sonatas go )...so if I don't get the PIP advanced, it would be a downgrade. What to do...what to do....

Dang...looks like your friend is getting a heck of a deal.

If anyone wants to sell me their PIP for $6K, I'm game. (y)

    It is a tough spot:(.

I just keep thinking that the options we have now will only get better in a couple of years:).

I really wish they'd tone down the dash, but don't have much hope. Next gen maybe Darth Vader will morph into an even larger Clown Face of some sort... :(

Will probably sit tight, NO problems with the 2010, and I really appreciate everyone here with higher mileage "running interference", finding the problems that I then preemptively work on, on our garage queen. (y)

Soon you’ll need to think about your traction battery;).

Your the preventative maintenance type, so go for the Prolong :).

That would be the next thing to address;).

Or post it up here and one of us high mileage guys will put the queen thrrough her paces(y).

Say how difficult is it to install the Prolong harness? This is potentially next on the list of things to do.

There are pictures and instructions on the Hybrid Automotive website ;).

    It makes the install easy:).

With your stable of Prii, that’d be a great choice(y).
