Need advice on head gasket/engine

i wouldn't accept the offer until shopping it around, but yeah, i think it's time to start looking for a new car.

 

If you have experience doing engine work you can save a lot of money doing it yourself but if you have to pay someone to do the work it is a different story.

 

The car is worth more than that, but you’ll have to fix the problem in order to extract more .

Some questions:

• How much oil does your Prius consume?
• Have you done any preventative maintenance?
• What was your long term plan for your Prius?
• What would be your spending limit for a repair?
• What mechanics have you gone to?
• Have you gotten a second opinion?

Some additional questions:

• While your Prius doesn’t sound like it is burning oil, have you pulled the dipstick occasionally to see its level?
• Have you had the egr circuit cleaned?
• Are you able to diy?
• What is your plan when the hv battery fails (it will happen at some point)?

The reality is that you have a Prius with over 200 k miles on it and when you own a high mileage car, repairs are inevitable. If you can do some of the things yourself, ownership of the car at higher mileage makes sense. But sometimes you have to move on.
