I have a 2010 Prius with 207k on it. The engine started vibrating at initial acceleration so I took it in, they changed the plugs and coils, but ut kept happening . Fast forward to the dealer and we've come to find coolant leaking into piston 2.

They said engine swapping/ replacement makes more sense.

Is it worth it on a car with this high of mileage that is driven 20k+ a year? It hasn't had a battery problem yet.

I got an offer of $2400 to buy for parts. Is that good? Please help!

i wouldn't accept the offer until shopping it around, but yeah, i think it's time to start looking for a new car.

If you have experience doing engine work you can save a lot of money doing it yourself but if you have to pay someone to do the work it is a different story.

The car is worth more than that, but you’ll have to fix the problem in order to extract more ;).

    Some questions:
    • How much oil does your Prius consume?
    • Have you done any preventative maintenance?
    • What was your long term plan for your Prius?
    • What would be your spending limit for a repair?
    • What mechanics have you gone to?
    • Have you gotten a second opinion?
Good luck and keep us posted (y).

    Thanks for responding :).

    Some additional questions:

    • While your Prius doesn’t sound like it is burning oil, have you pulled the dipstick occasionally to see its level?
    • Have you had the egr circuit cleaned?
    • Are you able to diy?
    • What is your plan when the hv battery fails (it will happen at some point)?
The reality is that you have a Prius with over 200 k miles on it and when you own a high mileage car, repairs are inevitable. If you can do some of the things yourself, ownership of the car at higher mileage makes sense. But sometimes you have to move on;).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).
