I invested in OpenPilot for safety concerns. The LKA on the Prime functions poorly compared to a 2010 Prius 5 with LKA. So to me, this is a fantastic technology.

Is OpenPilot like "mod" for the car, so you car get car driving itself by running some software on phone(like in 1st post video) on the windshield?
I would never ever trust my phone so much that i would let it drive my car.
Its so totally different world when there is OEM computer in car what drives itself, those computers are so more robust and softwares are much more bug free(running watchdogs for example) than something what you can download from internet to your phone.

I really hope that im wrong? Those OpenPilot softwares run on car Computer?

That is a self contradiction. Level 2 counts only as 'driver assist', not as 'self driving'.

Many consumers are letting their expectations get far ahead of the available technology. This over-expectation has already killed two Tesla drivers. The title of this thread just feeds those excessive expectations.

At least yesterday's 60 mph crash of a Tesla in a stopped truck near Salt Lake City, didn't kill anyone. It has Autopilot, but its engagement status remains TBD.

Are you telling me to stay away from the public roads? If others are mis-using these mods on the public roads ...

Here's the concept. Call it whatever you want. It really doesn't matter.

The car will keep you centered and nicely spaced in your lane with an adequate following distance.

The point is to pay attention. If you do that, you'll only have another set of eyes watching out for you.
Also I would be more concerned about people texting while driving. Nobody is paying attention with that car.

The software won't run on any regular phone. The phone it's running on has specs on par with a pretty good computer. It's also been modified and has some extra hardware tacked on to it to handle the constant processing demands and heat. That's why it's thick like a brick.

It's not shown. In the picture. Look up more and it's the only one there. Put your hand just inside the glove compartment and move it straight up. You'll touch it.

Google research brings me to Comma.ai website. Can somebody confirm that these are the following hardware that needs to be purchased?

    1. Panda OBD-II Donge White (Standard) --- $99
    2. Giraffe (Toyota) --- $60
    3. EON Dashcam Dev kit --- $699

All in all it will cost you $858

Correct. The Giraffe plugs into where the stock camera goes, and the stock camera plugs into the giraffe. The Panda plugs into the Giraffe. The cord connects the Panda to the EON Dashcam.

When sticking the EON mount to the windshield, you have to be very precise about it facing straight forward, being level, and centered.

    Few questions:
    1. Why do you have to be precise about how the EON Dashcam is installed?
    2. Where to attached Giraffe?
    3. Do we really need the EON Dashcam? Or we can use iphone?

    Thanks for the response.

Does the open pilot fingerprint compatible out of the box with 2017 Prius Prime Premium? or do we have to modify the finger print?

Prime fingerprint comes ready to go with OpenPilot no distinction to premium or advanced. Needs LKA and DRCC to work. If your car has that OpenPilot will work. Previous posts in this thread are helpful.

What is LKA? I believe DRCC comes with Premium models.

If the camera is looking too far right or left, it'll hug the lane lines in the direction it's facing. The more precise you are, the smoother and more centered in the lane you'll be.

Girraffe plugs into the camera socket behind the rear view mirror. The black plastic cover just pops off.

    Yes you need it.

The EON has 51 Gigs of storage for recording. How far can you drive until that storage is full? I read somewhere when the 51 Gigs are used up, OpenPilot stops working. I have not been able to turn off recording. The parameter in settings doesn't turn off recording.

It's more like how long the car is running. I think it uses about 2.5-3 gigs per hour the car is running(and openpilot is plugged in).

And what happens when its full? What do you have to do to get it to start working again?

Let it connect to WiFi. It'll clear itself up. Usually I park close enough to my place it can connect to wifi from the car.

Thank you for that answer. I have a few more questions (which I hope are simple ones):
    (1) Will the placement of my dash cam (shown in the photo below) interfere with mounting the EON? (I mean, is my dash cam in the way?)
    (2) Is the EON easily detached and reattached? Or would it take careful positioning each time it was reattached? I'm thinking about the possibility of it attracting thieves.
    (3) Once the system is installed, is there a simple way to turn it off so you can go back and forth between using it and using the standard functionality of the Prius driving assist technology?
    (4) Would you say you really only use it on long stretches of freeway in lighter traffic?

The EON is a dashcam . You can actually watch every single drive on your computer after the EON uploads it over WiFi.

1.) If you want to keep that one, just put it centered below it.
2.) It just slides into it's mount(the small black GoPro mount stays on the windshield) and plugs into the little cord
3.) You just have to flip the 3 switches on(that are usually off) to use the cars stock system. You don't even have to unplug the EON.( It can be used as just a dashcam this way)
4.) I use it anywhere I possibly can. So anyplace that you could use cruise control, I would say.

Here's a screenshot of the dash cam quality if that's a concern for you.
It tells you where, how fast, how far, when, and the quality is good. You can zoom in and see the license plate number alright Screenshot_20180605-123032.jpeg Screenshot_20180605-123205.jpeg Screenshot_20180605-123259.jpeg
