So, I know that is the big dog service.

I will be doing it at the dealership. They are at least honest, but very pricey. But I have a 20 percent off coupon that a service advisor slipped to me one day when we were chatting (nice guy for a dealership service advisor).

    Anyway....

Other than what Toyota says....is there anything I should avoid, or, anything I should add.

I replaced the engine water pump at 50K (leaking) and had the transaxle fluid replaced at 75K.

Thinking -- IIRC -- Patrick Wong -- in his quest to cost me $$ -- said I still need to replace all the coolant and need to redo the drain and replace of the transaxle. Even considering I did the water pump at 50K and the trans at 75K.

Just joking a bit. Patrick is fantastic!>LLLLL>>>>

So, anything else I should know, other than placing my first-born on the block.

    Car is doing GREAT! btw.

Ah, Bisco, I am 5'10" and very skinny (or was/am until recently). Not the Kim K. type. So do not think I got any special treatment. I am just naturally nice to people and they respond.

As my husband says though, I am very wiry. Anyway, enough off-topic. I really THINK that the receipt that I got with the WP swap-out charged me for a gallon of coolant, which means they did not change out the coolant.

Which is why, Patrick said I need to have it all changed out when I did the 120K

120k is just simple fluids and plugs. Unless you're going to bleed the brakes, any mechanic can perform this service without special tools

    1 coolant
    2 transaxle fluid
    3 bleed brakes and clean
    4 plugs
    5 Air filters

If bleed brakes equals change brake fluid, and especially if it's never been done something definitely worth doing. Toyota Canada says every 3 years or 30K miles now. And Honda Canada has been saying 3 years regardless of miles, in a couple of centuries...

Air filters, meh, check them and replace if really needed, but certainly don't pay a mechanic to do it.

Yes, brakes have never been touched.

    Here's what I would add:
    1. Was the serpentine belt previously changed (for example when the engine coolant pump was replaced)? If not, that should definitely be done now.
    2. If the front struts and rear shocks have not previously been replaced, they should be replaced now. I understand that much of your driving had been in rural areas on gravel/dirt roads, which will stress the suspension more than on pavement. So you can expect your suspension needs help. You don't necessarily need the dealer to do that work if you can find an independent to install KYB-branded parts. The front struts also need the top strut mounts and the top spring insulators (which include the pleated cover) to be replaced.

A 20% off coupon is pretty normal when you consider the list prices of the services.

Periodic brake fluid replacement is not on the US 2G maintenance schedule. Personally I would do that work only as part of replacing the brake actuator assembly, not as a preventive service, due to the concern that the fluid replacement process may stress the brake actuator more than normal use of the brakes do, and prompt an actuator failure.

Different folks I guess. I mean, they say the transaxle fluid is lifetime too.

FWIW, the 3rd gen has a Repair Manual instruction for brake fluid replacement, without Techstream. IIRC 2nd gen Repair Manual has no such instruction, and it's not something you want to fly blind on.

If it's as easy as 3rd gen, it's about an hours work, with an assistant pumping the brake pedal, and costs a couple of pint bottles of Toyota DOT 3 fluid. A significant "if" though.

@NutzAboutBolts has the definitive video on 3rd gen brake fluid replacement.

Chris forget all that start contemplating the hybrid battery failure. If the car has not thrown any codes yet
It’s ripe for a battery reconditioning because it does not matter at all how nice and maintained the chassis is if the battery tanks.

    It’s the #1 post now on a G2.

If it's been close to 100k miles since your inverter pump has been changed, I would put that on the "to do" list. That's quickly becoming a major failure as many of the recalled replacements are all coming up to needing a replacement again.
