Well, I'm sure more Trekkies know of Galaxy Quest but let's talk about other cameos, references and parodies of Star Trek here.

Those that watched Wonder Years and the TOS ep Spock's Brain should get this:

    I just learned of
    today. :)

Big Bang Theory seems to be the series with the most Trek references, and cameo appearances. Winnie from Wonder Years has appeared on it, too.

This is the second time I've followed one of these links and just hit the Star Trek shopping page, rather than the article in question - you posted another on the main Star Trek thread. I don't know if they have some sort of protection against deep linking or something - it's odd. Anyway, I have no complaints: thanks to the last such link, I'm now the proud owner of the "Disco" t-shirt they wear when they're doing physical training on the Discovery.

Have you watched The Orville? The whole series is a Star Trek parody/homage.

    The Orville - Wikipedia

It got terrible reviews - in part, I think, because it struggled to find a balance between genuine drama and comedy - but I liked it. Episode 2 was pretty much a straight take of of TOS' The Menagerie. Other episodes were very much along the lines of TOS and TNG, and I thought they worked pretty well.

Maybe they do. The link you posted is also broken for me, leading to a shopping page.

    Try this instead?

Same thing again with the code link. It must be anything we try to deep-link to on the Startrek.com site. It seems a rather odd strategy.

And the YouTube link is geoblocked. Grrr.

Anyway, I did hear that Chris Pine was asked by Christopher Nolan to star in last year's WWII epic. But Pine said, "No, thanks. I've done Kirk."

Actually, I'm not familiar with them either but 'SNL' airs lost classic 'Star Trek' episode with Chris Pine - CNET gives an overview. Many of those names are SNL regular cast members. It's a show w/a monologue, a whole bunch of skits, fake funny (they try) ads, and usually 1 or 2 musical performances. I don't really watch it any more.

They make fun of politicians (doesn't matter who's in power) but Alec Baldwin has really skewered Trump numerous times. Trump himself was in many skits on 1 ep of SNL many years ago when he hosting The Apprentice. Was actually very funny and I enjoyed it when it originally aired. Anyways, don't want to get this thread banished to the politics area. I'll stop now.

This does kind of highlight the biggest weakness of TOS. It's not strong on the whole lady thing, is it? This is one of the things that's so good about Discovery.

Thought of starting a thread on the Orville when the Discovery one started. The second season should be starting soon.

MacFarlane had originally tried selling it as an actual Star Trek series that followed the Federation's B team around. I describe it as Star Trek wrapped in a work place comedy. The first few episodes felt awkward as the cast found their footing, but it became something that could have been a true Start Trek series.

There's an extremely creepy take on this in one episode of Black Mirror from season 4. Very well made television, I highly recommend it.

Yes, I think it starts at the end of this year. Apparently there are rumours that Alara Kitan won't be in it, which would be a shame as she's a good character. Still, I am looking forward to season 2.

I thought it took a little while to get going, but ended up taking on the Star Trek ethos - especially for parables - really quite well: the episode where you were lobotomised if you got too many downvotes on social media was especially good for this.

I'm working my way through Star Trek Enterprise at the moment. Last week I was surprised to see that Seth MacFarlane had a cameo as an engineer in one episode in Season 3.

I had to look it up. "USS Callister" was the episode title, I think it was the 1st episode from the most recent season.
