    You'd probably like this

Whereas I'd say "Start that starboard engine!"

Best trains to me provide the best trips. Scenery. Every continent of world has candidates. Even Australia. Not Antarctica though.

Bullet trains serve purposes related to time management. While that may figure highly for some, putting 'marketing to childlike' symbols on outside accomplish... what?

External viewers see a pink blur passing instead of a white one.

Why even bother with white paint then? Every farmer knows red is cheaper.

You're right! I do! I shall have to ask my friend's brother whether he's ever flown it - he's an Eva Air pilot.

    Nononononono.

Hello Kitty is a very special person indeed.

I used to have a Hello Kitty toaster that would burn a Hello Kitty face into the bread.

Things like this make the world a better place.

There are trains you go on for fun - they're the ones for which scenery is important. Australia has this to offer if you like an awful lot of nothing at all.

And there are trains that get you to places. For these, scenery is a plus, but not a necessity. The time management facilities that the Beijing-Shanghai bullet train offers me do indeed figure highly. I remember when most Beijing-Shanghai trains took 18 hours, rather than the current 4ish. Now, the bullet trains save me from having to take the always-late plane.

"I used to have a Hello Kitty toaster"

As a Sanrio zombie, you'd still have it in use everyday. Something seems amiss.

I'd choose a Jesus-face-branding toaster any day. Its products seem as miracles to the few. OMG they could be many!

Whereas, juvenile-marketing kitty is only a miracle as having persisted decades. Perhaps even Down Under, professional help could be sought against this. Here's hoping.

Besides scenery, some train lines offer mystery and romance (well, maybe). Any others than Orient Express could fill this out in an uplifting manner. We are after all in search of best train here.

When I was pre-school, I have a memory of a steam locomotive. I asked who drove the engine and was told, "the engineer."

It took over a decade before I realized there were two types of engineers and by then, I was committed to geekdom.

Took me a while to catch your meaning; was worth it, lol.

Only two? Seems like everyone's an engineer these days. And engineer is a verb as well.

Those few remaining steamers on scenic routes deserve consideration as best evers.

Grrr..... I wrote a reply and then it disappeared.

It died. Which was surprising, because Sanrio stuff is usually of such good quality.

After that, we got an expensive Italian toaster, which was hopeless.

You seem to be a little too late.

The person I think of as the Chinese government's very best economist is a massive Hello Kitty fan. She was insanely jealous when I told her I was going to Sanrio Puroland.

If it's a mysterious and romantic train you want, you could definitely do worse than the Train To Busan.

    But in real life.....

I have friends who swear by those super-long, super-famous journeys, like the Trans-Siberian, the Trans-Mongolian, The Ghan, and the Indian Pacific. They all just sound a bit dull, though: there's an awful lot of nothing at all. Most of the Indian Pacific's journey is across the Nullarbor, a place so boring they named it after one of the (many) things that isn't there. 2,000 miles of this would get old.

Now, the Tokyo-Osaka bullet train. It's fast and clean and on time and you get some of the coolest views ever. Perhaps this is the ideal compromise?

Train to Lhasa, with supplemental oxygen supply, sounds adventurous.

In earlier times, Prius drivers went in (slow) circles to get well above 100 miles per gallon. Somehow I am more forgiving of such circling.

Monster-truck events combine all worsts: Pointless, noisy, and with stadium accumulating carbon monoxide.

The kids are very keen to go to one: I think there's one here in early Spring.

Bring earplugs and supplemental oxygen cans.
