Recall for Prius Plugin fuse :-)

    Update: Full charges have taken me to 13.9, 13.6, and latest to 13.2. I drove 11.2 careful miles yesterday with .8 remaining. Hard to say at this point whether there has been any increase in actual miles available. It is likely there is a big part of wishful-thinking on my part here.

    I had my prius plug-in recall done about a month ago. The immediate result was that my EV distance (estimated) went from 8-9 miles which it had been all winter to 12-13 miles which made me extremely happy. However, when I actually drove it, my actual mileage was lower (went from 57 which had been the average all winter to about 47). I was sure it was a result of the recall so I went back to the dealer and asked them what had happened. They said that it might just be that the computer needed to "re-learn" and that it would be back to normal soon. But it's been a month now and the mileage has only increased to 49 and the temperatures are higher now than they were when I was getting 57. I'm pissed that the recall screwed up the gas mileage and not sure what to do now. I have an appointment at the dealer for next week but I'm sure they will not be able to do anything (and will probably try to charge me for checking). Any ideas? Has everybody else had this happen also?

    All they did was change a fuse. If they didn't use a data saver to keep things in the car's memory, that would reset the computers to be like a never-before-driven car. Mine had no change at all, I assume because they kept the data in memory.

    As for the expected range, that is a GFA number loosely based on previous driving and works just like the stock market. (Past performance is not an indication of future earnings.) If it lost the records, it went to the factory setting and needs time to gather more data.

    As for actual range, three things that can be causing the changes some are seeing.
    1. The computers have to re-learn everything and are temporarily not running the car at best efficiency. But, as I think about it, the computers aren't doing all that much in EV mode, so it's more likely to be your right foot that's doing it.
    2. In most areas, it's warmer now, so the battery is livelier.
    3. You've changed something about the way you drive or changed the mode between ECO, Normal, and PWR, or your tires are low, or some other factor is reducing the range.
    Remember, a fuse is just a glorified wire. It just conducts electricity. And melts if necessary. That's it.

    Another thing to keep in mind. This is a PiP. @Soren Pfeffer, you mentioned going from 57 to 47 mpg. My per tank raw mileage has varied from 48 to 142 mpg depending on EV percentage and driving speed on that tank. So 57 to 47 is nothing.

    agree with jerry, you can't tell anything without historical records of hv driving only.

    and your ev distance is likely the same also, the range guestimator is meaningless.

    So, I keep a very detailed sheet of EV v. HV, and I've seen no significant change since the fuse was installed.

    See my attached sheet - I add a new line at every fill up. Ignore the line labeled "Test" that is simply a placeholder for me to copy/paste a new line with the formulas when I need to.

    The lines in light blue were where I experimented with Non-Ethanol fuel (Don't bother).

    The line in brown is where I had "My" first oil change for the car, and the fuse swapped out. I have had 3 complete tanks of fuel used since then.

    The KW used column is based on the display in-car which I re-set at each fill up. Fuel used is the actual amount of fuel based on the pump display. I also make some assumptions on the sheet, ie, that about 25% of my energy is lost in the conversion process, and I track my actual Kwh used per my Ensupra meter to the right of the sheet (I used to be able to charge at work, but had to stop a while back. I can't recall, and did not document the date.)

    It's easy to get mixed up and swayed by preconceived notions unless you had data. I have a similar spreadsheet.

    We do have to take the battery and disconnect it. Your fuel trims could have been reset and your driving habits were relearned.

    Just got the recall done at my local California Dealership just a couple of days ago! Made the mistake of driving the car directly from the Dealership to my local smog Test Station.

    Since the 12v was unplugged, the car will not pass the Test without driving another 300 miles!

    Lesson Learned!

    Mine never got recalled and I am getting over 21.6miles. I tried a range extender but it seems not to work. "nice oscar" on YouTube .

    For the 2012, that sounds pretty good. Is that Imperial miles ? I do recognize that with Imperial gallons your
    Mpg would be greater than ours. Your mile should not have changed, still 5280 ft., right ? Or is the mile now computed in metric?

    is that downhill? sounds to me like your range extender kicked in.

    There's only one type of "English" mile :)

    The problem is with gallons, stemming from an imperial pint being 20 fl. oz vs. 16 fl. oz in the US.

    It was 21.1miles this morning, I actually shared this on YouTube because I was getting a bit concerned but the voltage is alright at 220volts which means 3.9volts per cell.
