I can't tell you how annoying this is -- I almost felt like starting a thread on this myself. Except with me, instead of email, I get snail junk mail sent to me every month or so trying to get me to join. So they're helping keep the post office in business by cutting down needless trees and using extra jet fuel. What irks me, is that Toyota sold our information to a non-affiliated 3rd party vendor without our permission. Perhaps they don't need it, but I don't like it, and have never had it happen before, even though my old car (Civic Hybrid) had either XM or Sirrus (can't remember) as an option as well.

I noticed that after the first few initial attempts (that clearly displayed XM Radio), the later mailings suddenly starting having no indication on the envelopes who they're from, forcing you to open it up to see who it's from.

It's bad enough we're forced to cycle through the XM audio advertisement if we use the AUDIO button on the steering wheel to change audio options (instead of being able to simply turn it off), now we get to be pestered monthly with junk mail from them. Well, it's their money, and it goes right into the trash.

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't in your contract with your dealer. Has absolutely nothing to do with Toyota. A franchise owner makes their own contracts and that's pretty standard boilerplate. Just like mortgages or even any loan application. They make money on reselling that info. Especially info that ties back your physical location with larger purchases and financial information.

In my houses I've got a rule. If it is not a greeting card or a bubble mailer/package from the mailbox it goes right into the recycling. Never opened. I don't need or want anything via the snail mail post and things I do need are available online.

Speaking of Toyota selling our info to third parties. I've received about 6 letters from different companies about my warranty on my Prime bought a month ago was expiring. Did anyone else received these letters?

Pretty much every few months since the 1990's. Lots of vehicle owner info is public and lots of these folks pay the data miners for the info.

I've been getting these since 2014. Lots at first, then slows down to a quarterly rate later on. Recycle bin fodder.

My 3 month trial was activated last week .. I only care for listening to Howard Stern .. I have Spotify for music .. Sirius offered me some promo of 6 months $4.99 a month then the remaining on regular pricing.. Sirius really ain't all that great to me so after the trial I'll be passing and can't wait for the endless emails/mail/phone calls asking me to come back...... Ugh

Do you find a lot of interuptions, passing to the North of buildings, trees?

Alas - buildings, high rock cuts along the highway, trees, or tunnels get in the way. The satellite signal comes from the south (in the US) and tall objects block the signal until you drive past them.

Mostly tree covered areas, the odd building if downtown.. Not too bad otherwise.

I believe besides the satellite there's often some sort of locallized "repeaters", that rebroadcast and "homogenize" the coverage a bit better. In Vancouver I found it pretty spotty though, to the point of frustration.

There are ground based repeaters in most populated areas. When we used it, the only time it ever cutout was when waiting under an over-pass to turn onto the freeway for a long period of time or when we pulled into a parking garage. Otherwise, full coverage in the middle of nowhere as well as downtown urban areas with huge buildings.

Pandora, free, is much better in all ways.
Pandora for 6$ a month is commercial free.

XM, once they get you keep you, calling and cancelling takes an hour or two, and their ability to call you using a local to you number is frustrating, every time I block them, they use a new number.

Tape their prepaid to a large envelope and put a brick in the envelope. That way they pay first class business reply rate.

Same approach here. I’ve reupped a couple times at the $30/six month rate by threatening to cancel. I suspect they’ll continue that offer indefinitely ;)

I get those for almost all the cars I've owned, be it Toyota, Honda, or Domestic. I think they get information from vehicle registration not from the dealer or manufacture.

I used to have Sirius - in my now departed 2011 Prius, and the Corolla before that, for a total of about 10 years - I cancelled it about 1.5 years ago because between the service degradation in my area, many dead spots, and the fees going up, it just was not worth it anymore, especially because my commute went from 26 miles one way to 1.5 one way.

The only time it would have been worth it was the 10 hour drive that we make 2-3 times a year - and we started listening to audio books on those drives.

Just got the Prime Advanced about 3 weeks ago - of course it has the SXM free trial - I have not turned it on yet, as I have Pandora, which serves its purpose very well.

I should have read this earlier, now need to find a day with couple of hours free time to call them and cancel!

You might want to change your credit card number; I found those guys really play dirty.

Today, I got a postcard in the mail about a class action lawsuit settlement where SiriusXm had been calling people on the national do not call list for years Buchanan v. Sirius XM Radio Inc., Case No. 17-cv-728 (N. D. Tex.). If you join the settlement they will give you 3 free months of SiriusXM or you can opt for ~$12.00. I chose the cash. Here's the web site. These people called and harassed me for years and I never paid a penny for service plus I am on the D.N.C. list, so show me the money. ;) Yeah, it's only $12.

Good choice! If picked free subscription, then they will be permitted by law to pester you for extension of the subscription for 18 more months.

See my post #24 above from almost exactly one year ago. My attitude towards them has not changed at all.:D

They've always used bottom feeder tactics. They still contact me on a 2009 vehicle I don't own anymore.
