    oh boy.

cca doesn't matter, but fitting it properly does. are the posts the correct diameter and in the correct orientation? does it have the vent fitting? will you change the tray?

if it is the larger prius battery, you're better off. same charging system. best to change the tray so it fits properly.

That is a direct replacement for the larger model prius battery. It will work fine but will not fit the small battery mounting bracket. See post 36

I didnt check anything...pretty much pulled the old battery and set it down next to new one, noticed the size discrepancy and said uh oh and aborted mission.

at this point, it would probably be easiest to follow tmr's advice.

Ok. Put the new battery in. Had to take the mounting bracket out, so will need to find that conversion kit thing tmr spoke of. For now, I packed it in with cardboard to minimize movement (i made sure to leave space for the vent from hybrid battery and the breathing tube. Car started up with no problems, drove it around the neighborhood a few times, didnt hear any obvious signs of the battery shifting. Slightly concerned about the hybrid battery vent, not sure if it is entirely flush with the side wall.

Tmr, do you happen to have a name (or link for purchase) for that conversion kit?

it is the toyota oem part for the larger battery. try camelback toyota, eBay, or a salvage yard.

You should have changed the 12v some time ago. When it gets that low, the car actually diverts more energy into trying to get it charged than it normally would, which causes worse mileage. change it, once every 4 years to be safe. Next time it hits 4 years old? change it NOW!

Okay, got the new battery put in and everything, didn't have the right bracket so I ordered it. I had it packed with cardboard and stuff to help keep it from shifting. I'm wondering if that hasn't caused a new problem, as I'm now experiencing the dark dashboard issue that suggest a problem with the combination meter. If I unplug the cables that connect to the harness on the positive terminal of the battery and plug them back in, the problem is fixed temporarily. Am I just having really bad luck with this car and having every single major problem that is a known issue with these all happened within the same two or three month span? Or is this simply something that will probably be fixed with my new bracket comes in and I can secure the battery better?

what is the battery reading? a low 12v can simulate the bad mid problem.

okay, so you want the acc mode, then turn the headlights on and see how she drops over ten minutes. if she holds pretty well, maybe the mid is bad.

Okay. It's going to have to wait a while, I'm at work right now and can't just let my car sit for 10 minutes LOL.

10-4. just trying to make sure the new battery has a full charge, and holds up under load. sometimes they come with a low charge from sitting on the shelf, and sometimes they are defective.

if all is good with the battery, it is likely the mid went bad from the fiddling, but would have happened anyway. or, it is just a coincidence. see if there is a fuse that might have blown.

Well, my issue didn't happen immediately. I driven it for a few days before it happened the first time. I parked the car because when I was researching it online it said that when it happens it doesn't record the mileage which is true. So when I found the post I believe it was on here saying that somebody had got it going again by just unplugging the cables and plugging them back in I tried that and it worked. So I had driven it for almost another week before it happened again yesterday. And then it happened again this morning, so I'm checking to see if it was possible that just because the battery isn't really strapped down right now since I don't have the correct bracket could it be that the battery shifting a little causing the connections to be not 100%.
