The maintenance required on these cars is very low. There is no reason at all to buy a prepaid maintenance plan.

The falsely-named extended warranties are not a warranty at all. They are a prepaid repair plan. They cover what they say they cover in the fine print, if, IF, you do all the things the plan contract requires of you elsewhere in that fine print. Look at these as peace of mind insurance. If you'll sleep better, buy it at the lowest price you can find on the web for the factory plan. Otherwise, save your money. What you pay covers a profit margin for the dealership, a commission for the so-called finance manager (who is paid on commission only), a profit margin for the underwriter, and maybe some money left over for future repairs.

That happened to me too when I bought my Plus this past week-end. I have already submitted the cancellation request form for the maintenance plan I signed up for. You have 30 days to do this with no fee, and then after that it's a $25 fee up until the end of your first 2 years of ownership as long as you don't use it. The money goes right to my finance company, but it should only cost me $5 in interest (2.79%) even with it taking 6-8 weeks to get the money back.

That applies to any "insurance" type plan.
These plans make money for the seller do doubt in the long run.
Just one data point ... each of my Toyota Platinum Plans has paid for itself.
If you're like me and keep your car for 6,8,10 years the odds are you'll suffer a covered repair over
the life of the policy. I don't put a ton of miles on my vehicles so the mileage limit on the policies is
    not a factor for me.
It comes down to "do you feel lucky". Are you willing to gamble your car won't suffer
a expensive covered repair after the stock warranty runs out?
The Toyota Platinum Plans are quite comprehensive and can be purchased for much less than
most dealers want to charge. See my post near the top of this thread.

Don’t have a Toyota care or extended warranty on our prime. We did buy the Toyota care for our 2015 Prius for an additional 3 years mainly because they had a sale for $150 and it came up cheaper than having it serviced anywhere else for a 3 year period.

    SHOP AROUND!

Here is what we were offered by a dealership in New England:

Pricing is still the same(as when be bought in 2016)…although, they’ve added 9 and 10 year options now.

    Vehicle: 2014 – 2018 Prius (C, V, and/or Prime) with less than 36,000 miles.

Toyota Extra Care, Platinum coverage with $0 deductible:
    6 yr / 75K - $685.00
    6 yr / 100K - $985.00
    6 yr / 125K - $1250.00 (What I bought)
    7 yr / 75K - $780.00
    7 yr / 100K - $1140.00
    7 yr / 125K - $1375.00
    8 yr / 75K - $900.00
    8 yr / 100K - $1255.00
    8 yr / 125K - $1670.00
    9 yr / 100K - $1435.00
    9 yr / 125K - $1915.00
    10 yr / 100K - $1545.00
    10 yr / 125K - $2070.00

Here’s the pricing matrix for the Toyota Care Plus plans:

    Synthetic motor oil program pricing:

    3 yr / 35K - $355.00 - 3 yr / 45K - $495.00

    4 yr / 45K – N/A - 4 yr / 60K - $805.00

    5 yr / 55K - $625.00 - 5 yr / 75K - $980.00 (What I bought)

Keep in mind that these are also from day one, mile 0…so the 5 yr / 75K plan is effectively a 3 yr / 50,000 mile upgrade to the complimentary 2 yr / 25K Toyota Care plan.

I am very pleased with their service, ask for Troy: FD-Warranty

I hav bought 3 plans from them and they are very professional.

So I'm confused. Are they still selling these things out of state? I'm hearing conflicting reports as to whether Toyota (or TFS) is cracking down on interstate sales.

Looks like the motor oil pricing program isn’t that great or am I missing something. When the free oil changes run out , I pay $69.95/oil change every 10,000 miles. 3 oil changes and 30,000 miles would only be $210.00

Yeah, that didn't seem very good. The extended "warranty" prices seemed competitive, maybe even worth considering in some cases, but a synthetic oil change every 10,000 miles is maybe $60. If that's all you're getting for that price, it seems like a bad deal.

Yes, two that I know of that sell Genuine Toyota Plans are:
Jerry Johnson @ Midwest Toyota [email protected]
Troy Dietrich @ Toyota of Greenfield (FD Warranty) [email protected]
Both have been doing this for 15+ years. And YES they are Genuine Toyota Plans.

Comparing n=3 samples for the same Toyota extended warranty, the cost varies from the least expensive @marcpablo $780 to middle of pack @schja01 $1180 to the most expensive @pearl12970 $2795. How are they deciding what to charge? Who is backing up this insurance, Toyota, dealer, or some other underwriting company? Something iffy here. Can I trust any of them?

I have a feeler out to Troy. I am a little surprised the Prime is priced the same as a C or V.

Even the cheapest one claims to be from a Toyota dealer offering a genuine Toyota plan. But are these plans really marked up *so* much that someone can charge $780 in the example above and *still* make a profit on it, where another dealer asks $2795 for the same thing?

OK, when I go to the place offering the cheapest of the quotes above, the site has a clickable brochure to a Fidelity warranty plan, not a Toyota plan. Apparently some Toyota dealers sell these, so they are the "same plans" as a Toyota dealer would sell. It just sounds like it's not a Toyota warranty. Could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me. Those rates do seem "too cheap to be true" for an authentic Toyota extended "warranty".

Because the battery is covered by Toyota.

The battery (as part of the hybrid system) is covered by the factory 8/100 warranty, so any extended service plan that doesn't exceed 8 years or 100K miles doesn't really add any hybrid system coverage at all. As a result I'd not expect said plans to have extra cost to cover the Prime's hybrid systems unless the term exceeded those parameters.

I am very sure if you get a Toyota Plan it's a genuine Toyota Plan. If you read other pages on the site it says they sell plans for cars the dealership does not sell and those are 3rd Party Plans.

    You are 100% correct.
Look at the prices... a BIG jump in cost from 8 yrs to 9 yrs but very little between 9 yrs and 10 yrs.

There is also a BIG jump in cost for any plan over 100K miles.

I still think any extended warranty is waste money, even if it is genuine Toyota plan, especially if it is for less than 10 years/100K miles. Chances of parts needing repair covered by those warranty before 10/100 is extremely low IMHO. Most of the time you will end up paying for the services yourself because they are not covered by the plan, such as tires, brakes, alignments, issues related with rust, and normal wear and tear, etc, etc.

That said, if you can sleep better by having this type of insurance plan on your car and you can afford it, then get it for peace of mind.

I ended up with the extended warranty because they lowered my interest rate. My credit isn’t the hottest but it ended up being $9 more a month for the warranty. Oh it also came with gap coverage too. I know rip off but hey $9 extra no big deal I’ll just cancel Hulu lol
