    Hi guys,

I am the developer of Dr. Prius App, the App currently supports Gen2, Gen3, Gen4 (both NiMH and Lithium) and Lexus Hybrid, only thing left to do is Prius Gen1 which has becoming very very rare !

I did work with several wonderful Gen1 owners from US east coast, and we did able to extract all the PIDs, however the Gen1 ECU seems to be on the slow side that prevent the App from calling PIDs at once. I am reaching out to this wonderful community to see if anyone in the SoCal area (Los Angeles) that willing to rent me his/her Gen1 for two hours at any given day (with compensation), I don't even need to drive the car, just need to sit there with my laptop on and find the correct time-delay to run the OBD2 commands.

Thanks and please PM or reach out to me at support At PriusApp Da CO M
Really appreciate all the helps from this PriusChat community!

    Jack C.

An interesting fact that if you search on local Craigslist, a healthy Gen1 is selling at a higher price than a similar Gen2, from my point of view Gen1 certainly has it's historical value!!

Good evening, Mr. Ripper, and welcome to PriusChat! Speaking for myself, I would be wary about doing business with an unknown party with a name such as the one you have chosen, and not least of my concerns might be as to whether or not your ability and expertise in your product would match those demonstrated in your marketing skills and choice of name. I am reminded of a friend who started a software company named "Fly By Night Software" with the logo of a silhouette of a bat, and when questioned about the sensibility of the name, replied "…well it's almost guaranteed that any case against a "Fly By Night Software" company would have a problem standing up in court!" ;)

haha, thanks, long story short I used to be a RC airplane test pilot specialize in 3D flying. In couple cases I flew till the wing(s) fall off hence the the nickname ripper..

to back my story here is an old clip that someone took from my back, it was an unsuccessful attempt in ripping the wing off but you get the idea :)

Is there a manual for your app? I just tried it and it does very little. How much do the extra tests cost and how are they purchased?

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for the feedback, after launching the App, please click on the "Click here for Demo" and it will take you to the Monitor page where you can watch pre-recorded battery data in action, then like any other Apps, click on the hamburger icon on the top left corner to see the menu options.

In the menu option you will see the following main features of the App:

    1. Monitor page - Battery telemetry
    2. Full battery diagnostic - Run a series of test including load testing on the battery system.
    3. Life expectancy test - Going through a series of process to calculate the remaining capacity of the battery.
    4. Special feature - Many useful tool for your hybrid vehicle including get/reset error code, apply extra cooling to the battery.. etc
    5. Repair shop around you - This page show you any hybrid repair shop in the neighborhood.

The following demonstration video is a bit old but should be able to give you an idea:

The monitor page and special feature page are free, the other two test pages can be unlocked (in-app purchase) for 7.99 USD, it is the same purchasing process as any other App in the app store.

    Hope this helps,
    Jack

It would be better to sell the key via your own website using paypal. I am sure you could reduce the app price by 30% as well.

JTR, just the core of your app (which appears to be free) is so cool and so useful (y).

I'm working on a plug-in charger for my V and that was the first app I came upon to monitor hv battery status and health. Once my plug-in charger is done, I plan to charge from solar panels. Just a backup when I am out on the road in nowhere or camping. After that I want to see about upgrading the hv battery to lifepo4 but that won't be years from now. I am hoping Toyota will succeed with solid state batteries and allow us all that upgrade. That would be amazing. Anyway finding your app got me going on my project.

I too have flown RC planes and can do some cool flights. I haven't flown for probably 5 years. I don't plan to get back into it yet because my planes need work. Flying RC planes, I get to see how lithium batteries swell up and die from extreme heat and stress. That's why really interested in lifepo4. Little to no thermal runaway.

Thank you for the kind word, seeing this App helping people really make my day and keep me going, money is just a small factor to help persuade my wife to let me keep at it :)

Flying RC airplane with all types of battery also got me into this battery testing business, I also have prototype Prius battery being worked on in the factory using LTO chemistry that suppose to out last NiMH, let me see if I am allow to upload pictures here for a quick sneak peak.

Please help me decipher what the real-time graph is telling me.
The Yelp list of shops around me is NOT hybrid specific.
    $8 for is pricey.

I notice your battery modules are one to one to Prius module. I'm thinking of combining 2 modules into 1 since the Prius BMS see's them in blocks of two. So instead of 28 modules, combine them to 14. As long as each block is in spec range of (15v-16v) instead of the 7.2v per cell. This requires changing busbar design. Bigger cells and less of them in series (because of the switch to better lithium chemistry) should lead to a more stable and easy to manage battery pack.
