Keep us informed...I do not quite understand the scenario (driving times etc), but I do not see why the light would come on other than low pressure (relative to the set point) or faulty TPMS.

Took my 2016 Gen4 to service today.
Against all odds I found out it has 8 memory slots for tyres after all (4 summer, 4 winter).
All my tyres were already in the system.
    How to switch?

The guys at the shop gave a link to this video by Toyota Finland.
    1. start car
    2. go to settings --> tpms menu
    3. Press select button 3 times, the tpms light starts blinking, wait for the blinking to stop.
    4. Make sure you have the right tyre pressure.
    5. Press long on the button (set pressure normally), tpms starts blinking, wait for it to stop.
    6. Voilá, you are now on the "other" set of tyres.

Here's the video (sorry in Finnish, but the subtitles are above).
Works at least here in europe.

I think this is a key point, all eight tires have to be registered in the system, otherwise it might pick some tire sensors from other nearby cars.

The version of Techstream I bought didn't come with the utility to register any new or extra sensors and made it useless because that is why I bought it.

Do the newer versions of Techstream allow the dual entries?
Techstream not totally useless? as you could still enter the 4 new codes by hand
or is it not workimg with Gen4 at all?

In older versions of Techstream you could only set up TPMS in North American mode. If Techstream was set up in European mode, TPMS was not on the menu. Don't know about latest Techstream or Gen4.

It worked on Gen 4 but part of the program was missing, it was called the Utility, there was no link for it.
Very hard to explain and doing a Web search it was a common problem.
I could read all my existing TPMS sensors, tire pressures etc but I couldn't register my new TPMS sensors from my new wheels. My new wheels have Autel cloenable sensors and have never been able to get them to work, I gave up on them. Too busy in the summer, maybe later.

Yup. I'll let you know how it goes when I change my winter tyres on in october-november.
I'm thinking I will do this away from my other tyre set, so it will only find the "right" 4 tyres. The systems finds the tyres a couple of walls away from my garage, so I'll drive somewhere to do this switch.
Btw. the guys at the Toyota service weren't sure how this was done either, they first tried to program the sensors but noticed that 8 tyres were in the system already. Then they googled how to make the "switch".
I'm just happy I don't have to go to service twice a year in order to keep the tpms working.

I have no idea. Very pleased with the service though. They did not charge me anything for that and even sent the link to my email.
It's a small market, they only sell 200 priuses and plugins per year here.
I bet this was the first one they did yearly service on.

This is what the service looks like here :D .

OK, I read this thread from the beginning to the current end, 6 pages of 112 comments and all with a great interest. But, but, but... I still do not know if US version of Gen 4 (assuming includes Prime) has ability to switch 2 sets of 4TPMS IDs. Further notion that cloned aftermarket TPMS are failing to register making me think twice going this route if and when I decide to purchase second set of rims for winter tires. I did without winter tires for my first winter on PRIME, but I will be needing to change the tires sometime when the OEM tires are no longer safe to drive on snow.

I will continue to follow this thread and hope to find definitive answer soon. Thanks for everyone's great detective work!

I guess you could try pressing select button three time in the tpms menu?
If the indicator light starts blinking it is searching for the second set and has the same functionality?
(Not sure if it has to have more than 4 tyres in memory in order for it to start searching though.)

Perhaps @Elektroingenieur can search the US docs to find more information.

OK, I will check it when I get home today. I have 15K maintenance appointment with a dealer tomorrow morning, so if something goes wrong and TPMS light stays on, I can have them fix it. With my previous Gen3 Prius, I knew it would not be able to switch two sets of TPMS, so I purchased winter tires without rims and had to have them remounted on the original rims with the same set of TPMS twice a year. When I purchased PRIME last year, I was thinking getting winter tires on a separate set of rims but I could not decide what to do with TPMS, and just kept the all season tires. Thanks again.

I don't know how much snow/ice you get in New England.
The mud/snow tyres are not safe in the snow or ice ever, even when brand new.
But on the other hand real winter tyres (Nordic studded or unstudded) are not so good with dry asphalt or heavy rainfall.
And especially the unstudded ones are super soft compound so they wear pretty fast (max 3 winters), studded ones last longer and are a bit better with heavy rainfall. Studded ones of course are noisy and that's an issue with the prius.

Yes, I know tires (or tyres as you write it), are always compromise. If I live in area where snow stays on road most of winter, I would definitely have snow tires on my car for that duration. But where I live, we usually gets 5-10 snowstorms during season with anywhere from a few inches to over a foot of snow. However, our snow plow are very good, snow usually do not stay on road surface for a long time. Although our winter temp usually never gets above freezing, with heavy use of road salt, we don't have too much icy road conditions either. Last winter, I just did not drive my car when snowed and a few days after, instead used our other car with dedicated snow tires.

Yup. And it depends a lot how much and fast the roads are salted. I understand they use a lot more salt when the roads are icy than here.
I have super soft unstudded winter tyres on mine for the first time (I've driven studded Hakkapeliitta pretty much all my life).
I have to say they are super comfy and quiet (even more quiet than the summer tyres). And the unstudded ones have been getting much better over last years, on snow they are just as good as studded. Nothing beats studs on ice though.

We get "skull conditions" (that's whats it's called here :D) maybe 30-40 days per winter and I live right at the southern tip of Finland. Going north it gets worse.
And here schools/businesses never close due to weather, so you have to drive every day blizzard or not.
So it's a totally different scene.

I'm thinking about buying studded Hakkapelitta 9's in the winter.
But not sure what's the right choice in New England.

I had studded Hakka on my old Civic. Yes, they were super sure footed on ice, but boy were they noisy. I switched to Michelin Xice3 on Gen3 Prius, and was extremely happy with the ride and comfort, as well as mpg. I couldn't say they are as good on ice as studded but I kept using Xice3 on our other car Civic Hybrid. X ice is much quieter and comfortable than Bridgestone Ecopia 422 Plus the car have on during summer. If I decide not to purchase dedicated winter tires on my Prime when OEM Dunlop gets worn out, I may try Nokian WR G3 as all year around all weather tire.
