Should I have Toyota check my battery under warranty?

    Just bought a 2007 with 147,000 miles on it. After about 2000 miles I'm averaging 43mpg when my previous 2007 (I sold it to a friend) was averaging about 47/48. I know a lot can have to do with tires and beyond but i'm wondering if I should have Toyota check the batt under warranty. I'm guessing there is a healthy charge so my questions are as follows.

    1. Is there any concrete way I can figure out the health of my battery myself?
    2. Is there a concrete way that they actually check and can figure it out or are they essentially looking at anecdotal evidence?

    150K is around the corner and I'm in a CARB state so it's now or never. Thoughts?

    Do you have a quote for a check? I don’t see a dealer doing one for free. If you don’t have a check engine light on, or are failing emissions, my dealer would tell me that the car is performing within expectation. Or something along those lines.

    Kind of what I was thinking. Like I said, wasn't sure if there was some divining rod they held out ofver the car that turned when the batt was no good

    Google the OBD2 reader that will tell you individual pack voltages. IMHO, that will put you farther ahead probably both $$ wise as well as info wise. Plus, you can use the reader down the road.

    Monitoring your pack voltages over time will probably be the best thing you can do.

    Interesting. So that will show me what each cell is reading? Is it fairly straightforward and do I need a pc to connect it to or is it complete? Finally, it looks like there are a lot of different ones with vast price diffs. Any thoughts?

    Yeah. I was a bit confuse.
    10 years from 2007 is 2017.

    Isn't your warranty expired already?
    Unless you managed to buy a new 2007 in mid 2008?

    I believe this is what a bunch of PriusChat people like:

    The Prius throws codes sometimes that don’t match what other cars throw. (Happened to me once.)

    Doc per above you are probably out of CARB warranty due to over 10 years since first purchase. Not to mention we are assuming it was orig purchased in a CARB state.
