Most electric and hybrid cars cost more than their dino juice only bro's. Think Tesla. How many Corollas or Prii could you get for $75,000? However, if you hold on to your hybrid, take advantage of free charging and do proper maintenance you will come out ahead of a dino juice only car. Not sure why people buy the Prime. I see no advantage, additional complexity that may fail, and a higher price. But, if you live in an area where Crypto mining is affordable and don't drive long distances, the Prime makes sense.

electric driving is fun, and many primes have been purchased for less than prius. also hov access in some areas.

It was mentioned in this thread a couple of times but after owning a prime for a while, I realized just how much fun EV driving really is.
Even if it cost the same (or a little more)...It's really fun.
Even if it cost the same (or a little more)...It's better for the environment
We all have thresholds of how much more we're willing to spend for a healthier environment or to just have more fun..
My conclusion...Prime is definitely worth it. Even if I had to pay triple what I do for electricity (currently paying $0.12/KWh) I would.

    At $0.35/KWh, 12K electric miles cost ~$825
    At $3.25/gal, 12K gas miles cost ~$710

Yea, even if it cost $100/year more to have fun driving electric, help reduce pollution and hopefully have a longer lasting quiet car...I would.

Not having an idling engine in a traffic jam is a real plus.

Yes, but it's not fun. I can't remember the last time I had fun driving. Maybe burning rubber up the street in my '65 Mustang back in the day...

This is why. The first photo are gas receipts. I filled it up in April and four months later in August I put gas in it. It's an 11 gallon tank and I only put 8 gallons of fuel into the car. I've could have gone all the way to September but I had to take a trip to Rochester. And the second photo you notice that I have travel 3,793 miles within the four months and got an average of 199.9 empg. The third photo is my round trip from Syracuse New York to Rochester. 168 miles averaging 80.9 miles per gallon. Using just about a little bit over two gallons to travel 168 miles. This is one reason why people buy the Prius Prime. For me I get 38 EV miles on a full charge. Which cost me 52 cents and great mpg on highway driving. Love this car. 20180808_181538.jpeg 20180808_181646.jpeg 20180809_140920.jpeg

I had to not charge my car for a month to get the gas tank close to empty. Since then, I've only put in 6 gallons. I've got 3200 mi on the car since I bought it, and have yet to actually use a full tank of gas other than to use up the initial tank provided to me by the dealer.

They should have given me 1/4 tank of gas and a full battery charge instead.

Here at Finland if you are buying normal prius vs plugin prius about same year and same odometer reading there is easily over 10k€ difference. 2 years ago i decided that next car is Hybrid, i also looked about plugin Priuses because i have short trip to work but come on! Over 10k€ extra. That 10k€ will buy me bunch of fuel here and i bought gen3 style Hybrid car(Toyota Auris/Corolla wagon).
Maybe i am not green enought and my wallet is not full of green to buy plugin.
Maybe this post is at wrong thread but yeah where would electric savings be when car bought value is +10k€

Nope. I have seen what you guys get and i can just wish here.
Finland has quite high tax for car sales and those taxes are related to pollution what car makes. So they dont wanna support buying low polluting vehicles since those already make so little tax. (my opition).

Compared to population i believe that country is Norway. And norway supported those EV boughts very nicely.

Edit: had to check. 30.6.2018 there is 1875 full EV cars on the road (link). Total cars(passenger cars) is ~2,6million.
31.3.2018 there has been 7418 Plugin Hybrid cars. (link)

So i would been at quite unique league.

Edit 2: Easy to see also why Finland does not support EV:s. Gasoline price has over 55% tax, one litre is about 1.6€ so it would be about 6€ per gallon ~ $6,8/gallon.
2017: 2 939,5 million euros of taxes from gasolines here at Finland.

Maybe there's some EV incentives this year?
