Attached are the results for car sedan sales in July, 2018. The Tesla model 3 ranked #7 in sales for last month with 14,250 sales/deliveries. The top 6 sales were captured by Japanese brands Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. All of these brands top 6 brands should sales decrease from minor to significant with the exception of Sentra which showed a minor increase. Even more encouraging Tesla model 3 was in the top 20 in sales when compared to all vehicle sales including SUVs and pickups. Tesla model 3 numbers will even get better in August as ramp up continues with expected sales/deliveries to hit close to 20K units.

"The Model 3 cracked the top ten list for best-selling passenger cars in the month of July, according to Goodcarbadcar, which analyzes sales data for the automobile industry.

The report said Tesla sold 14,250 Model 3 Sedans in July, with it selling 38,617 year-to-date. That ranks seventh among all passenger car sold in the U.S. last month. The data includes cars delivered, not deposits or reservations for cars. The Model 3 outsold the Ford Mustang, Toyota Prius, and the Hyundai Elantra.

In fact, the car outsold the BMW 3-Series (3,185) and Mercedes-Benz C-Class ( 3,841) combined in the same period.

Tesla noted on its earnings report last week that the Model 3 is already the best-selling premium mid-sized sedan in the U.S., a segment that includes the BMW 3-series, Audi A4, Mercedes C-class, Lexus IS, and Jaguar XE.

The Toyota Corolla was the best selling car in July at 26,754 cars. Meanwhile, the Toyota Camry and Honda Civic were tied for second place with 26,311 vehicles sold. The Honda Accord was third with 24,927 cars sold in July.

Those cars cost significantly less than the $50,000 Model 3 that currently available, so it will be interesting to see where the Model 3 moves in the rankings once the promised $35,000 version hits the market next year."

It's not for me for the next two or three years, because I am about 500,000th on the waiting list.
But no hurry, in the meantime happy with my trusty PII.

"... #7 - all auto sales in July"
I think you mean U.S. passenger car sedan sales, excluding pickups and SUVs.
But nevertheless, impressive for the first year of a completely new model. Not to mention

well ya - in the US.
...... & often in the US, when we say auto - it's a given that an auto is not a truck - or mororcycle

Also - These sales #'s may still not yet reflect what may happen as Tesla streamlines & increases its ability to crank up production all the while maintaining or increasing quality.
Is there any other manufacturer yet - for ANY price - offering an ev w/similar range, w/anywhere near a similar refill infrastructure?

    Those are debut numbers.
Impressive enough, but where it goes from here is really the key.

Given the cost, and exclusivity that still exists with Tesla, and still rather niche consumer base, I would expect standing to fade, in comparison to mainstream consumer choices.

It is still somewhat Tesla's "badge" that it's a company that doesn't build to the greatest mass consumer demand.

Camry had debut numbers once, and we all know where that went.

That's what was said about the Ford F-150 once upon a time

You might be right, but as more of them are on the road they will become more mainstream and that will lead to mass consumer demand. According to the latest surveys, Tesla has over 91% "would buy again" rating.

Realize I'm not knocking Tesla here. I'm a big fan of what Tesla and Elon Musk have created and have been able to accomplish. I'm just pointing out realities concerning what Tesla currently is, and the danger of throwing a parade based on "debut" numbers.

And I can't really join you in any comparison between a Tesla and The Ford F-150. IMO those are about as divergent a product and tangible history as possible.
The F-150 being a truck, being built for demand after WW II, by Ford one of the pioneers, maybe THE pioneer of the mass produced vehicle.
Maybe the ONLY arguable similarity, is that as a truck, you could call it a "niche" vehicle, for a specific audience. But besides that? The F-150 is one of the most popular, long lasting product lines. I don't think there ever was a "Tesla" like start up era of F-150 existence.

I get the cheerleader thing, but nobody ever-ever-ever said that they "expect [F-150] standing to fade, in comparison to mainstream consumer choices." or anything like it.
The F-150 supplanted...noting, since purpose-built pickup trucks have been around in one form or fashion for over 100 years, and their future (electric or otherwise) is fairly secure going forward.

Ford's F-series began after World War II, when pickup trucks had already been around for over a generation, and there's a non-zero percent chance that some form of consumer owned truck-like thing will probably be around for at least a generation after the last Ford F-series rolls off of the assembly line.
During the early 1920's, when farm trucks also doubled as personal transport....pickups were a 'thing.'
During the dust-bowl inspired migration westward, pickups were a 'thing'.
After WW2, when comsumer products and housing demands caused shortages that had to be met with dual-purpose vehicles, pickups were a 'thing'.
During the 80's when car prices spiked and performance and reliability tanked....the cheapest vehicles on the planet had beds and tailgates, and pickups were a 'thing'.

Even today, the skateboard architecture of BEVs will lend themselves beautifully to cars that are trucks and like the Oakies in Steinbeck's novel....if the 'experts' who make cars don't also make trucks, some will probably get made....anyway. ;)

Tesla (and it's cheerleaders) need to regard the data presented by the OP in context.
    Keyword:
    Sedan.

They need to (and doubtless WILL) expand to the baby-ute and pickup markets too....
That's probably why there are red boxes in the Civic, Camary, Corolla, and other rows, or are we to believe that people are leaving the $25,000 sedan market so that they can buy a $50,000..........sedan.
    Methinks not entirely.

I agree, one month statistic does not set a trend, but this statistic is going to grow even larger over the next couple of years. I expect that Model Y sales will eat into Model 3 sales once it is introduced next year.

Yes, I think the F-150 was a niche vehicle when introduced but look at it today! I know a lot of people who use them as their primary family vehicle.

When talking about Ford, keep in mind that the sales numbers quoted are usually for the "F-Series", which includes the F-150, F-250, etc. There's also regular cab, crew cab, super cab, different bed lengths, single or dual wheel, and most of these variations can be had as a basic work truck or loaded with luxury and technology features. The range of prices goes from around $30K to around $100K.

It's really not a single model, more like a sub brand.

We usually see a 3-4 month bump on a new model until production matches demand. But one exception was the Gen-2 that was a glass of water in Death Valley. The demand was an order of magnitude higher than production. Dealers were ADDING to the MSRP. That is Tesla’s Model 3 Market. Evidence is the EBay market prices for Model 3.

agreed on first half, but beware the ebay prices. they aren't actually selling in volume on the secondary market, just a few suckers here and there.
